Default IGN weighs in on Warner, CES...

http://blogs.ign.com/DigiGod/2007/12/11/74029/

Personally I've been against IGN DVD due to their blatant bias towards HD DVD. But in this blog they bring light to "Warner's announcement that they will finally choose an HD format after Christmas..."

And --

"Their decision will reportedly be based on sales of titles -- not players -- which means one geek buying 70 HD-DVD titles will have more of an impact than 30 families buying two Disney Blu-rays apiece for each of their systems."

Interesting. I mean, we've already all but been assured this is concrete. But I just thought you all would find this piece interesting as well. Something additional to dwell on. All credible sources seem to say that if we can take a huge sales leap over the Red Ants this Holiday, the war will come to an end.

Oh yeah, sorry if this has been posted. I didn't see it...

...Warner's dual-format "TotalHD" concept, which they announced in January and canned in September, was undone by the persistent domination of Blu-ray...
That line got my attention. That just gives me more hope that Warner will go Blu very soon.

Also, when they say that Warner will be looking into sales, is that sales just for their studio or overall?

Unless they choose to look at "Planet Earth" (BBC) over their own titles, either way is in Blu-ray's favor.

That's what caught my attention as well. It lays credence into Warner going Blu rumor going around. First Business Week, then Pali, now NYT, and finally IGN. Sweet.

And that's why the Blu-ray fanatics should be chomping up as many Warner's Blu-ray titles as they can to help the cause.

Don't include me in that bunch, I'm begging off on the Harry Potter series because I expect consistent price drops within months for movies which I don't consider 2D4 ("Blade Runner" is another matter, I'll go for that one). I might participate in the new Warner BOGOs but I'm still working through the first set of BOGOs and am already waiting for the first round of Warner BOGO purchases to arrive in the mail.

I also thought about buying "Bourne Ultimatum" because it's a movie I like and has gotten terrific reviews. OTOH, I seen other movies with terrific reviews but not so terrific reviews from me. The deciding factor to hold off was the latest Warner rumors.

I wouldn't take for granted that Warner will elect to go Blu-ray-exclusive anytime in the near future. Everyone needs to pay attention and not assume Blu-ray victory is inevitable. Just because we haven't seen the effects of spiking HD DVD hardware sales on software sales yet doesn't mean it won't happen. If you've got the financial resources to buy Blu-ray discs on Warners that you actually like, I'd suggest you do so this year.

Don't you guys think Warner's mind is already made up? We keep seeing blogs/articles saying their decision depends on how well each format does during the holiday season. But seriously, if HD DVD squeaks out a win, and goes 1-51 on the year, do you really think Warner is going to go exclusive with a format who's winning percentage as close to zero as you can get without actually being zero?

And nevermind the fact that it's entirely possible and probable that BD will be 52-0.

is this guy actually proposing for every hd-dvd fan to go out and buy 70 titles so they could finally win a week?

...is that new the strategy, beat Disney?

"Holiday season" isn't just one week. It's Thanksgiving through Christmas. Blu already racked up a big win over the Black Friday frame, and a smaller but still significant win the following week. So 2 weeks down, 3 weeks to go. Unless HD DVD wins ALL THREE, then Blu-ray is the clear victor. And Warner goes Blu.

God I hope so, because now everytime I see a preview, I have to find the studio icon on it, just so I know if I will see it on Blu or not!

Warner may also be saying this to appease the red ants, their minds may already be made up. They obviously know BD is going to win out in sales, they just want to make it seem "fair".
