Default Do you expect your movies to be in mint condition?

I don't know if I'm being too picky or not. I bought the digibook of Dr Zhivago from BB when they had the 30% off rewards coupon, it was only $21. The security wrapper cuts into the edges of the book and they didn't have any that were undamaged so I ordered one from the website with free shipping and received it today. They told me to just return the one I bought in the store with the online receipt so that I could still use the coupon.

The one I got today looks mostly ok except for what appears to be a small dent in the top. The plastic wrapped around it is all scratched up so it is hard to tell if it is just the plastic or the cardboard case itself, I'm almost afraid to unwrap it to see. WB has it on sale for $22.50, but I don't want to keep going thru the hassle of ordering and returning. Or maybe I should just return it and wait for a regular case.

So I'm just wondering if anyone else expects their movies, especially special collector's editions, to be in perfect condition. It is not a movie I will watch a ton of times but for the price for a digibook, I thought it was a good deal.

Yes, I just got my Hannibal Lector Collection yesterday and the case was cracked a bit, the middle part falls out a bit and I e-mailed Amazon and they shipped me another one which is suppose to arrive on my doorstep in the next hour! Then I just have to ship the old one back (for free)!

I am like that too. When I ordered my Dr. Zhivago I went over it super carefully. I do not like for my CEs to be damaged at all, even if I do open them and watch them.
It really bothers me when I order items and they are damaged.
I understand that some items are high risk, like my SBs or IPs especially if I am shipping from Amazon UK or something, but if at all possible I like to be able to inspect it before purchase.
For the Sound of Music Digibook, I would not get it for another member here when I saw the spider security on it. Found a stock guy and was going on and on about the damage and he caved and found me one in mint shape and let me be all crazy about it.
When I display them I have little pieces of packaging sponge around the part that takes pressure from the stand.

I'm pretty anal about how I want my movies to look. If it's got a slipcover I want, or cardboard packaging of any sort, I won't buy it at Target as their security cases tend to damage them - I also won't order by mail.

If it's in a plastic case with no slip, I usually feel comfortable getting them anywhere.

I do expect newly-bought items to be in "mint" condition. It probably won't bother me if a case of any kind is slightly nicked or smushed or something. If it's broken, then I might just replace the case. Haven't had any problems with the discs themselves, and that's the thing that matters the most to me. I suppose if there ever is a problem with the disc, I'll complain and try to get a replacement.

Last year I picked up The Wizard of Oz Three Disc Edition from Amazon and it came in a bubble wrap mailer. The case was bent. They sent me a new one at no charge. I sold the bent one on the trading forum on here with full disclosure. The only picture in my HT gallery is it.

Well I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one. I decided to return it. I'll pick up a used copy cheap at some point and put it in a regular case and forget about the digibook.

It's funny, I went to a different BB tonight than i usually go to. They have a lot of their movies in hard plastic cases on the shelf but it is inconsistent. Some copies of the same movie are in the hard case and some aren't. Some boxsets have the security cord wrap while some copies don't.

I just received Dr. Strangelove in the mail from amazon today. The corners of the digibook were pretty smashed in, and the spine was even a little worn as well. I opened the package to make sure the disc was alright, and debated with myself for a while whether I should call and get a replacement.

I decided to get a replacement, I love my digibooks and I like them to be in great shape. I felt bad complaining since I got such a great deal, but then again I am purchasing a new product, I expect it to not look like someone threw it against a wall.

Well, this was the 3rd one from Best Buy so I was kind of getting tired of it. I only bought it because I had the 30% off rewards coupon last month and the guy in the store told me to just order a new one online and then return the damaged one with the full price receipt.

The first one had the edges damaged from the security wrapper, I had to go back and they ordered one from another store. When it came in, it had a slice on the spine as if someone had opened a box with a knife/razor blade and cut right across the spine. Then the one in the mail came with the corners bent in and where the blue is across the top, some of it was worn away. Just wasn't worth the aggravation.

Of course, I'm paying good money for em. If it were free then maybe I'd accept imperfections but when the price is high and there's not much discount on the item it better be in perfect condition.

Short answer: yes for me.

I either return or, usually if the price was good, just exchange it for a good copy. If there is no good copy, then I just hold onto the receipt, wait a bit for one to come in stock and then exchange.

I just got my replacement package for the Dr. Strangelove Digibook. The replacement was even more damaged than the first one!!!

I chatted Amazon support, and they are giving me a 25% discount, and I'm keeping the first copy. Oh well, I'll take a decent looking Dr. Strangelove for $5.99, that's a good deal.

Sorry the replacement was bad too, that's not a bad deal though. When I bought the first copy at BB they offered to take 5% off. Amazon is pretty good, I've always been pleased with their service.

I check over each movie I am going to buy and make sure it's in mint condition or I won't buy it. I rarely order online but when I do and it's not mint condition I just send it back for a replacement.
