Question Help...Need 24P playback.

I'm going to be picking up a Sony XBR4 46" LCD this week and my main reasons for selling my 40" 60hz Samsung 1080p were that I wanted true 24p playback and support. That and I also wanted a larger LCD because I sit atleast 9ft back from the TV on my bed.

I currently have the Panasonic DMP-BD10AK Blu-ray Player, but it does not support 24p output via hdmi.

My question is should I get the new Panasonic BD30 that lacks internal decoding for dts-hd, but has profile 1.1. or should I get a profile 1.0 player like the Sony s500 that has 24p output and internal decoding, but 1.0 profile?

I don't really care for PIP features, but I do want the best Picture Quality and least amount of compatability issues with playback of newly released discs.

I've herd really good things about the PQ from the new Panasonic.

I must explain though. I do not have a speaker system yet and am currently just using the TVs built-in speakers. I know its just tv speakers but I can tell a difference in sound quality watching blu-rays on DD+ versus PCM or lossless uncompressed tracks.

What player would you guys get?

I know the PS3 is fast and has good PQ, but I want the best Picture Quality. As some reviews seem to state it does not have the best PQ of all the players available.

In your case the PCM tracks get downconverted to 2 channels anyway so the new panny will work just fine as the older one is doing now.
Later if you upgrade to a surround system just remember to use a newer receiver with the advanced codecs.

I ended up buying the Panasonic BD30 tonight along with my LCD. I guess I need to download the firmware update soon?

Default I need advise for a similar situation

Thanks in advance for your help.

Most of my knowledge is with Toshiba and their players. Originally, I was interested in their players because of their price point. However, I am somewhat concerned about the longevity of this format.

I recently purchased a Sony 52" XBR4 and a Yamaha RX-V1800 (?) receiver that is capable of decoding the new audio formats. Both TV and receiver are HDMI 1.3a. Now, I am in the market for a player. I am hoping you can give me some suggestions for a Blu-Ray player with the following features:

1. 1080p
2. 24fps
3. Able to send the new audio formats via HDMI to a receiver for decoding
4. HDMI 1.3
5. Affordable, but reliable

Thanks again!

This one's a no-brainer: Panasonic BD30. It meets every one of your requirements except possibly #5 - its only been out for ~5 weeks so too soon to tell about reliability. Affordability? Not sure what that means to you but it can be had for under $500

Hold off on the update unless you run into any issues at first.
