Real winner of a film this for me. The old-fashioned thing called chemistry between the leads.

Already released in Germany and France is January too.

Bring on the back catalogue!

Wow, the only Coen Brothers movie I hate. I don't begrudge movies I don't like blu releases in lieu of better films, except for now.

I didn't think it was bad, certainly not as bad as The Ladykillers, but it'll have to hit £6 before I buy

Choo Choo train!

It is out over here (The Netherlands). I haven't seen anyone post about the PQ/AQ on the Dutch forums, but you won't have to count on any special features. Just like the Game. It is nicely priced though (€ 12.99)

I've never seen The Ladykillers and never will because I kept seeing people involved with the remake saying "Oh, I've not seen the original" and "Remake, is it really?". Hmmm.

I didn't like Hudsucker Proxy or Miller's Crossing and hated Burn After Reading. Best not to mention Crimewave.

Sold on everything else though and love 'em all:

A Serious Man
No Country for Old Men
Intolerable Cruelty
The Man Who Wasn't There
O Brother, Where Art Thou?
The Big Lebowski
Fargo
Barton Fink
Raising Arizona
Blood Simple

That's some back catalogue!

Not sure about:
True Grit (2010) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1403865/

Interesting. Miller's Crossing is one of my very favorite movies ever. Crimewave is hardly Coen's fault, even if they worked on it. Hudsucker I count as good, but uneven. Before Ladykillers it was the weak link in the catalog. Ladykillers is so odd. I'm convinced there is a good movie in there somewhere. It is like it was edited all wrong. It doesn't know where it is going and what to do with all these great performances, that just kind of lie there in the middle of this film with no momentum.

A friend of mine is convinced that after the wordless Brad Pitt movie got scrapped, the Coens made a bid for mainstream success in order to get the clout to make their passion projects, which is where we got Ladykillers and more overtly, Intolerable Cruelty.

I don't think I'll upgrade consider I haven't watched the DVD I bought for £2 but I enjoyed the film and I'll get round to watching one night.

On The Ladykillers front I remember Tom Hanks saying in interviews he knew the film would be a success because no one had seen the original, turned out Tom was half right at least.

I hope this next wave of Blu-rays from Universal isn't entirely bare bones like the last ones were.

Hard to say really. I picked up the recently released Australian version of Assault on Precinct 13 and that isn't bare bones, its identical to the US disc. Sleepers is another forthcoming Universal catalogue title I'm looking forward to and I hope that packs a few extras and a proper menu screen.

That last batch of discs with the stupid symbol menu were shite. Happy Gilmore, The Game and The Jackal. Good films but poor discs. Hopefully those were the last of 'em.

Intolerable Cruelty also has that symbol menu (like Wild at Heart).

some quick observations now that I've seen it and compared with the dvd.

It is a modest upgrade over the dvd. Depth and Sharpness are noticeably improved but the upgrade is not as dramatic as it can be in some cases.

The dvd was already pretty good quality and I think the blu ray is also pretty good but nothing outstanding.

I live in the US, but would love to import this. Can anyone confirm that this is region free?

Every Universal tile I have seen so far has been. They don't even use "ABC" logos on the packaging from what I've seen.

So, yes.

It's not quite at my £9 price (almost ) but I'll check it on a Region A player when I get it. Not much point waiting though as it will be region free.

It's in Play's 2 for £18 but nothing else there for me so far. Lots of great titles in there like Smokey And The Bandit but I have them. Smokey is region free tested.

OK, tested the disc and it works on a North America Region A player as we thought.

Cover:

Disc artwork has ratings for the UK, Australia, Belgium/Netherlands, Germany and the Peoples' Banana Republic of Éire.

And a screengrab for those who like their motion pictures not to be in motion:

Languages/sound:

I don't know which prescription drugs people are taking but this looks like a darn solid transfer to me.

Great movie too. It's all about the chemistry.
