Australia The Crow in February

Gamehead have The Crow listed down for BD release on Feb 3 and include cover art as well. No tech specs have been listed yet though.

Hopefully it's not the crappy UK one. I'm a little concerned it might be. Even though the UK release has been out for ages, it is an Entertainment in Video release and this one is done by Roadshow. Roadshow is often the local distributor of titles that EiV get in the UK.

I sincerely hope it's not and that it's a new transfer or at least the one that Universal used in Japan.

Fingers crossed for a good release though!

Okay, to clear something up here.
The UK disc and Japanese disc use exactly the same master. Obviously, the Japanese disc uses different encoding and at the proper 1080p/24hz.

Aside from that, they look almost identical.

The Japanese release is NOT some wonderfully bold leap in quality from the UK disc.

Perhaps I should have chosen my words more correctly. I'm not referring to the picture quality as in the transfer, but rather the encode. The fact that the UK release is MPEG-2 and 1080i/50 whereas the Japanese release is AVC and 1080p/24 is of importance to me. Given that the 50Hz results in the pitch differential (which just happens to be one of my pet peeves) I certainly think it's quite big difference in the way the audio is presented regardless of whether both feature lossless audio or not.

Given those two points that's exactly why I'd want it to be based on the Japanese release if it were to be using either one of the two.

I'm still holding out hope that Universal will do one, last release of this film that won't butcher all the possibilities of extras this flik can have.

The Proyas commentary exists, there's more deleted footage available, the Proyas behind the scenes videos, and (if we're extremely lucky) new interviews with the original cast.

It's been so long since this movie came out and Brandon Lee has never been given the justice that he deserves from this flik.

You're quite right regarding the audio, hence why I sold the UK release and picked up the Japanese version. Your reasons are all perfectly valid.

Forgive me, this does not apply to yourself, I've just tired of the internet parroting of the UK disc 'looking' rubbish, mostly from people that can't play region B discs anyway.

Yeah, there are certainly a lot of people that jump on the bandwagon without having actually seen a disc! This one is definitely one that gets a lot of flack.

For me though being a musician and also really liking the soundtrack and a number of bands on it the audio pitch issue is a big one for me and that's why I held off on the UK release.

Fingers crossed we get 1080p with a good transfer (same or new would be great). I only held off on the Japanese one due to price so this would be fantastic news if we get the best of everything on this release.
