Blu-ray Samurai

PRE ORDER
![]() Directed by Mikael Hafstrom (1408), this film has quite a cast for it, Chow Yun Fat, Gong Li, Ken Watanabe, Rinko Kikuchi, David Morse, and John Cusack. trailer Seems the Weinstein Company produced it, but it still has no US release date. Don't see any info on extras.... Last edited by pro-bassoonist; 12-06-2010 at 07:39 PM. |

It is a CN Entertainment release. The majority of releases by them have 1 extra or no extras at all.
There is also a China version available from HEC: http://gouduo.com/ware_15130.html |

CN Entertainment releases are all cheap, but they are of very good quality. Many of the discs done by CN are ports of existing Blu-rays from a different countries and compressed to a BD25. I am sure the China and HK versions will be identical PQ wise.
I have "My Rainy Days" and "K-20" by CN, and am very happy with them. Last edited by AnimeOnBlu; 10-17-2010 at 02:00 AM. |

Watched the BD, and the film itself was pretty good. Felt like a 1940's film noir, set in 1941 Shanghai, murder mystery, femme fatales, double crossing, spies in the mist, lots of light and dark shadowplay.
The ending didn't really live up to the rest of the movie, but it was a good watch. I don't know why The Weinstein Company is keeping it from a US release, but I imagine that it would go direct to video, as their theatrical arm is pretty much nothing these days sadly. The CN disc is in the original English 7.1 HD track (which is not so loud), mixed with some Mandarin and Japanese (about 10% of the movie) |

My biggest problem with buying these kind of movies (Mixed soundtrack) is that there is no forced English subs for that 10% foreign dialog. I hate watching the entire movie with English subs on for that 10%. You would think that that would be a feature that would be pretty easy to implement.

I watched this on Sunday. No complaints about the Blu-Ray itself. Movie was kinda meh. Story felt like it had no where to go except in circles. The sets were really nice. Especially the casino. The Noir-ish direction was good too.
I didn't realize Jeffrey Dean Morgan had an extended cameo. |
