Default Dolby TruHD Audio or PCM Uncompressed?

I keep hearing about Lossless audio, is there really a difference? I have my PS3 set to PCM Linear but my brother owns the HD-DUD drive and I don't know the difference between the two. I have my PS3's audio running from an optical can you guys tell a difference in sound?

If it's done right - if your machine is able to process the Dolby TruHD correctly (which the PS3 ought to do) - then Uncompressed Lossless PCM and Compressed, but Lossless, Dolby TruHD should sound the same.

If you are using an optical cable out of your PS3, however, you can't get either. You need to run HDMI to your receiver for full 5.1/7.1 uncompressed PCM.

really? I guess I have to get a new receiver because mine doesn't have an HDMI port. My TV does but I doubt running the sound from my TV via HDMI to my receiver will make any difference

Yes for me there is a large difference between PCM and whatever else there is.
