Default Zellers-Knight & Day Blu-Ray+DVD Holiday Combo pack $12.99

Just bought "Knight and Day" Blu Ray & DVD Holiday Combo Pack/"Gift set" for $12.99 at Zellers.(Reg. $24.99). It was scanned and price tagged at $24.99 so Manager needed to override it.
see link for front cover pic.->https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Knight...Blu-ray/16480/

I noticed there was a one sheet paper in store display "Your Choice $12.99 for Recent releases Blu Ray& DVD (Reg. $14.99-24.99)." It's also in their current online flyer on page 31 if you need some proof for the override because this is not scanning at $12.99.

I was surprised with the packaging when I opened it up. The gift set actually came with 2 separate cases: one normal DVD size for that format and the other a standard blue keepcase for the blu ray

Is the DVD worth anything in terms of a trade-in value at Blockbuster?

Sounds like a good deal, but it is still over my $10 threshold for new movies, especially after hearing mixed reviews.

Probably not much—especially without a case.

For $12.99, there's very little risk. You could easily resell this—possibly for a profit.

I think the original poster got lucky though.

I checked the Zellers flyer earlier this week. They have KNIGHT AND DAY listed as $12.99, but the DVD only -- not this special Holiday edition.

Maybe he got lucky.

By the way, this Holiday edition apparently has DVD and BD in two separate cases, so it is like buying both separately.

I might give it a go if I pass a Zellers today, but I'm not hopeful.

I was wondering why it came in such a big box. In that case, $12.99 is a steal. Just sell it on Ebay/Amazon or give it to someone as a gift.

You're probably right about it being an error though. If it's chainwide, I'm sure the stickers will be removed quickly—a la Fantastia.

13 bucks is to much for a brand new release? Geez it's LESS than going to see the movie once in theaters. Plus you get 2 copies of it, to own, untill it deteriorates over time in the hands of your great great great great-grandchildren.

Sticking around $25 for brand new release month Blu-rays make economic sense to me. Stating $10 is your threshold is just ludicrus. Do you grab handfulls for ketchup packs from McDonalds to make your own bottles to?

The $10 threshold is possible... but mostly when movies aren't "new" anymore or if you get them during black friday.

... or Boxing Day, or Halloween specials.

Name your sale, and there will be cheap BDs.

So I did go to Zellers today and I was able to pick up the holiday pack for $12.99!

Granted, I think this is a YMMV.

I went into the store and first had trouble finding the holiday pack. Zellers is pretty disorganized and they recently got a ton of cheap (read: $9.99 and less) BDs on cardboard racks littered around the Entertainment aisles.

When I did find it, I was expecting a double-sized package (width-wise). Instead it is in a DVD-sized package that is 2x thick.

I brought it to the cash where the young guy rang it up at $24.99. I pointed out the sale 'on pg 31 of the flyer'. He had a look and was kinda skeptical. "Are you sure this isn't for the DVD-only? Were there any other DVD-only packages?".

I shrugged my shoulders as if I didn't speak English.

He walked around and went straight to the New Release section. I had though this deal was dead.

However, to my surprise, they did not have any DVD-only editions. There was only the holiday pack, and the BD which had a BD, DVD, and DC included. So I asked him if I could have the 'other pack' for $12.99 at which point he smiled and flatly said, "No.".

Fortunately, the flyer also states that regular price for these advertised deals is also $24.99. So I guess he figured that he wasn't overstepping any bounds, and said that he would give me the holiday pack for $12.99 even though he doesn't think it was meant for the holiday pack.

So... I stand corrected. This deal is legit, but if you get a tight-ass at the cash, you could be out of luck because the flyer doesn't explicitly state that it is the holiday pack. If your store doesn't have any DVD-only copies, your case could be stronger, too.

All in all, it worked out even though my gf, after waiting for me in the car, saw me come back and said, "Doesn't this movie suck?"

Oh well, I'm off to McDonald's. Someone told me they have free ketchup there and I just washed my empty bottles!

Just to let you guys in a little rumor I heard. A friend of mine workds at FS and she said Boxing Day will be a blowout sale on some new release movies like Inception, Knight and Day perhaps it could be as low as $10-15 each. Also we can expect the usual older titles to be $5-10. Such titles like Fast Furious 4, Fight Club, Kingdom of Heaven, Prestige etc. Please don't quote me on this as I only heard rumors. I don't work there so I don't know.

Thanks for the heads up! It's definitely a bit of a hit and miss depending on who you end up dealing with, but the guy I had was pretty nice and rang it in at $12.99 for me. I also managed to sell the DVD on ebay (in less than 20 mins may I add!), bringing the blu-ray cost to approximately $6 bucks! Not bad at all!

So can you confirm that this edition has two cases inside the box -- one DVD sized and one Blu-ray sized?

The edition on Amazon appears to be two side-by-side cases, while the one I picked up at Zellers is DVD-sized, but twice as thick.

Default Knight and Day holiday edition

Yes, I can confirm there is a standard DVD case and a standard Blu Ray case in the box. I also sold the DVD to bring the purchase down to $7. Also picked up Predators for $12.99. Again, it's not actually part of the sale....but the flyer is confusing enough the sales person let it go for $12.99.

Cheers,
Jay

Yea it's not the side by side cases version, it's a box set, with the standard DVD case and standard blu-ray case one behind the other. DVD is the same as the one that's on sale in stores with the same special features.
