Default Set-Up of PS3

I have a 56" Samsung DLP T.V., a sony receiver and a PS3.

I have the PS3 hooked to the T.V. with a HDMI cable.
The T.V. is hooked to the receiver with a fiber cable, no HDMI.

When I start everything up, the receiver says PCM when it plays the audio.

Is this the best way to hook up everything?

Go to Audio settings and change the output to bitstream.

It would be better to hook up the PS3 to the receiver via optical then go into the PS3 settings under audio and switch it to bitstream.

Exactly, no reason to filter your audio through the TV

Thanks, I'll get another optical cable and hook the PS3 directly to the receiver.
