Default Would Star Wars make an difference?

Grandted Blu wins each week with 60+ numbers. What effect would the release of Star Wars(all 6 movies) have on the format war? I know Lucas is waiting for a saturation point. But, like Bay. He must realize that blu is better and maybe him releasing the movies would make a difference.

On a side note. I know Indiana Jones is a Paramount flick. But, does Lucas have the ability to keep the movie from being released on HD-DVD? Like Spielberg did with Universal and JP.

Thanks!

Yes, I think it would make a major difference. Blu-ray boxed set of the entire saga would the ultimate, definitive collection of Star Wars.

Also, I'd like to add that if during the marketing and promotion, if it was stated "Only on Blu-ray disc" or something to that effect, that too would push late bloomers to HDM.

I think that SW would have a HUGE impact on adopters of the format. As far as the software nielsen numbers, I could see a few good weeks in a row. Possibly a whole month of dominating sales but I think that biggest impact that it would have is on the adopting of our format.

In the long run, it will be beneficial in software sales but I think that the biggest factor is the hardware sales. Standalones would skyrocket in sales IMO.

Yeah, I think a Star Wars blu-ray might sell more than a few copies.

I think it's safe to say that we all know that eventually it will be released on Blu, so long as the format survives. HD DVD is unable to offer what Lucas insists upon for his films. That said, of course it would do huge numbers for Blu-ray, and would be the final nail in the coffin of HD DVD, if it's still around at that point.

Keep in mind that there's another 'Clone Wars' styled series in the works, as well as a live-action TV series, so Star Wars is still very much alive, and will continue to be at the top of quite a few wishlists for years to come...

It would be a headline grabber. I don't think people are waiting to adopt HD until any of the major trilogies are released. Typical fanatics will have most likely been early adopters of HDM.

HDM is too small a blip on the radar. Lucas took forever to release the original trilogy on DVD. I don't think that anything will change his mind as money is not a concern for him and neither is appeasing a studio or manufacturer.

Uh...Indiana Jones flicks are Spielberg titles. They will not be DUD exclusive.

Star Wars and Lord of the Rings are two trilogies that could easily turn the tied of format wars. To a lesser extend Indiana Jones and Alien, but they are not to shabby

A slur for HD DVD as in it's a DUD.

I thought he a Lucas were "co-owners" of Indiana Jones. And if he has the pull that can make the above happen and keep his other titles from coming out. What happened with Transformers? Unless he didn't control that one as much.

It's just a moronic and childish way of saying HD DVD.

And I would be all for Star Wars on Blu-ray, those are movies that need the High Def treatment. It would be a must buy for me, but I would hope that Lucas would release all 6 movies in a box set. But, it will most likely be a while before they are released.

Has nothing to do with "ownership". Spielberg's provision on the Paramount deal stated that they couldn't release anything he DIRECTED on HD DVD exclusively. And he directed all of the Indy flicks.

Thanks. I guess Michael Bay doesn't have that much clout yet?

And he never will. lol. Lucas and Spielberg have their clout because of their filmography changing film history basically. Bay, while I like his movies, is considered a hack compared to the great director's of our day.

Star Wars and/or Lord of the Rings would get many, many people to jump aboard the Blu-Ray bandwagon.

LOTR especially. I've heard several people say that is the trilogy they are waiting for in high def. I have to agree - I cannot wait for it to come out on Blu-Ray.

GO NEW LINE!!
