Just attended Tron at the local IMAX, and I must say the glasses were horrible. It wasn't just that they were filthy, but they also kept fogging up. I am curious if there is a place that sells higher quality theater 3D glasses that I can carry along with me. I did a bit of poking, but most appear to be for RealD and not IMAX... any ideas?

I noticed that with my glasses with Tron. I kept thinking they had smears. Should have taken the glasses I got from Avatar. Those were different shape.
are the 3-D glasses you get for 3-D tvs the same? Noticed on those they need charging? |

I thought they (theaters) provided brand new glasses for each showing.
![]() At least the company that I worked for in my college years used to do that and still do provide newer 3D glasses before you enter the theatre. I have also had experience where some of my customers were complaining about smears when watching a 3D film. It turns out that smears/foggy shows are related to the projector's Glass or the Screen itself. So wherever you have seen your show, I bet its either a problem with the projector's window or a their screen is dirty (projectionists obviously aren't doing their job like they are supposed to). |

I've still got the 3 pairs of glasses from when my family and I went to see Avatar last year. A few months ago, I cleaned those up and sealed them in a plastic bag for future 3D theater use. I'd noticed that the 3D glasses the theaters give me seem to get dirtier and more "used" as time goes on (naturally) - so I just use my own now.

well the one i had from Avatar were the square or rectangle glasses. The ones i wore last night were alittle bigger but on the bottom cornere were missing. Not saying they broke. They weren't designed as square lenes

Why can't they make those IMAX 3D glasses look like the real 3D glasses. The ones I had when I went to see Tron Legacy were those yellow IMAX glasses that are too stiff to wear. I prefer those Real 3D glasses. IMAX should upgrade their glasses considering they charge more.

No, they are not. Cinema 3D uses polarized lenses. 3D TVs use shutter technology.

The IMAX 3D glasses in my theater are magnetized so you set off a buzzer as you leave the theater... I thought the glasses were new each time you went in there... That is completely unsanitary, and if thats the case I will no longer be seeing movies in IMAX 3D..

once you put them in the recycle bin I assume they get rewrapped. Don't know if its the theater that does it or it gets taken back to the people who make them so they and clean, rewrap and reship. Over and over again.

I have my own pair of glasses to use for the Real 3D movies. I love them - they were an exclusive you could get with Coke Rewards points for the Avatar release, and they fit like normal wraparound sunglasses. Plus I know I'm the only one using them.
Whether you are using the Real 3D or the IMAX 3D glasses, here's a word of caution - make sure to use some sanitary wipes on them if you are using unsealed glasses (or even the sealed glasses to be safe). Good Housekeeping ran a study a little while ago, and they tested 7 pairs of glasses....NONE were found to be sterile, and one pair even had the pinkeye strain on them ![]() http://www.goodhousekeeping.com/prod...-investigation |

At our IMAX, at the end of the show you throw them into a bin that some employee is holding. before the show they have a rack of glasses, not wrapped, that they hand out. I will ask them how their process works now...
