I have plans on putting the new PS3 I just bought on top of the Onkyo receiver and I wanted to make sure that heat would not be an issue. I wanted to put it flat, but I don't know if that would be ok? I know vertical would be ok I think.
Suggestions? |

I wouldn't recommend it but you might get lucky.
![]() From what I've read, Onkyos run hotter than others and receivers in general radiate heat upwards through the top. And PS3s, themselves, run hot. They'd probably be cooking each other. You may not notice it right away, but heat kills electronics. I'd invest in a media tower and spread things across the shelves if I were you. |

FROM ONKYO OWNERS MANUAL
![]() 7. Do not block any ventilation openings. Install in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. 8. Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat. |

Media tower is not an option. See pic below.. ![]() It sits in the cubby hole over on the left. It's cleaned up now. Cable box is on the bottom and the Onkyo sits on top of it. I could set it on the sub, but I am not sure that will look right or be safe. |

Maybe throw the PS3 on one of the upper shelves? Looks like a lot of good space for hardware and you can get thin disc racks that'll fit anywhere.
A small hole drilled in the back corner of each shelf on the way up (if they don't pull out a bit) would make the wiring tidier and lessen the risk of something getting pulled off a shelf. |

There is a cabinet down below with doors. Might put it in there and keep the doors open when in use and close when not in use. Might be the best option. |

I hate this. Hmm. I will try that way and see if it looks good. |

Since space seems to be a big consideration for your setup, one thing you might consider is a single component rack to put space between your receiver and PS3. There are some good ones on the market, but here's a link to a cheapie one I could easily think of:
http://www.amazon.com/Mad-Catz-Horiz...915069&sr=1-11 Instead of placing the PS3 in the rack, flip the rack over on top of the receiver so the vent holes are on the bottom, facing the receiver. Then place the PS3 on the very top, and not in the middle as shown. That should allow adequate air ventilation for your receiver, while solving your space issues. Just don't store anything in the space below, so you don't block your heat dissipation. It's a $20 solution that's worth considering for your situation. Anyway, there's other ways to achieve the same effect, but you get the idea. Good luck. |

Thank you. This came to mind yesterday. I put the PS3 vertical to the side of the cable box and the receiver. I just slid them over and made SOME room. There is about a half inch on each side of the PS3. It might be enough room, but I am not comfortable with it. I think your idea is better. Just have to find something that works ![]() |

Lol. I know. I just got the speakers fixed. When I set it up, the speaker cables just barely fit when I ran them. Since we have construction and the ceiling downstairs is being put up, I needed to run newer, longer, better cables before I was unable too.
It's so nice having all 7 speakers again. I had lost the 4 rear/surrounds because of the damn cable issue. Not anymore! Almost forgot what it sounded like until I was literally BLOWN AWAY! ![]() |
