First let me say again that I am an ultra-newb. Second, I tried posting this question in the home theater section of the forums but was denied so I am posting it here.
Now, I just bought a new Sony KDL 46W3000 TV. I've been having problems with it dimming the picture on me. It only happens if the movie or video game I'm playing takes place in a dark room or in space or something like that. But it brightens up again whenever the image on the screen brightens up. I already turned off the power saving and light sensor options and I'm still having problems with it. I'm very close to calling it in to the place I bought it at, but am very convinced that it is simply an option I can turn on or off, but can't find. So I posted my question here in hopes that someone can help me. I thought it might help if I told you that I have a ps3 connected via hdmi, so there. Please help. I don't wanna take it in. |

Firstly, congratulations on picking a great TV! The W3000 looks great (both physically and in PQ). As for your problem, hmmm... aside from the light sensor option, the only other thing that I can think of is the screensaver feature on the PS3. But, I've never had my screensaver turn on during movie playback unless the picture was paused. I own the 52W3000.
Maybe try turning the "CineMotion" feature off? It's under "Video Options" on the TV XMB. See if that helps. |

Sound like a setting issus, my samsung has something called 'Brightness Sensor' & 'dynamic contrast', these two will screw with the picture. My sony sxrd has some diffrent setting options, but I know the Sony lcd has something like what samsung has, but I don't know what it called on the sony's lcds.

If you check out page 36 of the manual it mentions something under advanced settings about "advanced contrast enhancer" this feature "automatically optimizes the backlight and contrast". It could be causing what you have described. I am not sure from your post if this is one of the features you turned off.

Turn that off, most of the stuff in advanced settings turn off & when the tv is in Standard or Vivid most/some of the stuff in the advanced settings is Locked to On. That is why Vivid looks so much diffrent, all the advanced settings are ON. Custom is the best setting to get the best picture |
