Unless something's changed really recently, Disney doesn't own Grave of the Fireflies in either country. Last I checked it was WB in Japan, and whoever's picking up the pieces of CPM has it here.

December 2013 - Howl's Moving Castle & ? (maybe Cat Returns)
Someday... Ocean Waves
Anyway you look at it, we'll be spending a fortune on these. Do you think they'll do a re-release of Ponyo with the style packaging the other three have?

Disney aquired the rights back from Warner Brothers in Japan, the most recent DVD is from Disney, and includes all the extras produced by CPM in the US on the disc.

As for the US, CPM is gone, ADV picked up the rights, and now they are gone, so I'd hope that Disney can get them in the US too.

I'm going to TRY and get all the Japanese editions because I don't want Disney's fingers all up in my Ghibli.

Slightly off topic. Grave of the Fireflies is a great great film, but the story is just too sad too depressing and I admit I cannot sit and watch the whole thing more than once... so strange as it might sound, I am not sure if I will be picking it up if it comes to Blu...

Indeed the story is too sad. Luckily I only like Laputa and Totoro, and no need to worry about Grave of the Fireflies.

I agree, I don't watch movies to be depressed afterwards Great movie but strictly once-only

Agree with the above three posts. I didn't shed one tear during Grave of the Fireflies, way too shocked and abhorred that the adults in this community, especially the aunt or the farmer who caught them stealing, would not help children.

I would love to see Takahata's "Pom Poko" though on blu. That movie was actually really unique and entertaining.

My copy arrived yesterday, but sorry I'm too lazy to take shots.
Cardboard case, no mini book like Nausicaä just two/three pieces of paper inside. They seem to put two magnets on each side of the case to make the case close easily.
Descent PQ, slighly better than Nausicaä's. Personally I feel the Japanese DTS-HD MA 2.0 track is relatively weak.

I am impressed by the HK version release, so I think I will look forward to the HK version of this as well. Well, after all the HK version is nearly 3 times cheaper in price!

Just ordered this and The Yamadas from YesAsia. My Ghibli collection on BD is slowly growing!

My ghibli collection isn't growing fast enough, I can not stand the fact that it may be three or more years until we have all of miyazaki's films.

I think I will hold off on this release for now because I have the US dvd release from earlier this year which is pretty good, the video was improved a little and they got rid of the windowboxing. I of course am still curious to see how the bd will look in comparison to the dvd.

Im really impressed with this disc. Major improvment over my old optimum uk dvd. The print is so clean and there's no compression artifacts.
The dts hd master audio seems quite strong to me. Sounds much more dynamic than the flat sounding dvd.
Only slight problem was finding the english sub's. Disc won't allow you to just use the sub title button! Wasted five mins trying to navigate the menus. It also cost me £104 (the wife doesn't know that tho)

only special features I found were a short promo from 1986, original tv trailers and three other trailers (ponyo, shawn the sheep! Not sure what the last one was but it looked old) No subs tho.

I just found this on the digest forums. If you scroll all the way to the bottom you will see screens. It looks amazing from those pics, I viewed them on the tv via ps3 and then threw in my dvd copy and it is an outstanding difference. The dvd looks contrasty, overly bright and like it has too much yellow. The blu looks beautiful, the image looks so natural and the skin tones look particularly fantastic. I know some people complained that nausicaa looked too pink and that doesn't look to be the case with laputa. Of course I wish I could see it in motion, this is very tempting and I maybe importing this as well. To those who have this disc are there occasional soft or out of focus shots like there were on nausicaa?
