United Kingdom Should i upgrade front speakers ?

Hi all,
I have just got my first set up , see signiature below, but i am wondering should i upgrade my satalite front speakers for a pair of kef iq5se floorstanding speakers ?

How much diffence would this make or would i be better upgrading to different speakers or should i up grade centre speaker first ?

What are your thoughts on this, i would use the two replaced speakers as rear to get the 7.1 surround.

United Kingdom Thanks

I thought you would say that, i will upgrade all three eventually its a budget issue !

Just wondering are floorstanding better than say bookshelf type ? I can accomodate both types in my room so wondering what is a better option as i will be mainly watching tv and films on bluray and occasionally want to play an ipod through it for music.

Its a minefield out there and after some more experienced advise than i have

I think you would be happier with 3 matching tower speakers verses 3 matching bookshelf speakers

This is my front sound stage & would not have it any other way !

if you're crossing over your speakers at 80hz, there's not going to be much of a diff at all in floorstanders vs bookshelves. in fact, you probably can get more bang for you buck buying a nice pair of bookshelves at the same price of entry towers. now towers will most definitely have an output advantage over bookshelves and a bass extension advantage. the bass issue though can be remedied w/ a good sub though.

for me, i prefer towers for primarily ht b/c of their output capacity and bass extension(love me some bass so my towers have built in 10" subs on top of a 12" stand alone sub), but for my primarily music set-up, i just bought some nice bookshelves that will be augmented w/ a sub...

well.... let me say this... there is more output and bass typically on towers. However, I watched The Town the other day and didn't even notice it was in 2-channel audio, I forgot it was in 2-channel after listening to music. I never noticed my sub was off, but there was one scene that I thought there should have been more umph. But that is not typical of most bookshelfs.

Id say with a quality sub, bookshelfs are great for HT. If your bookshelfs have enough range and dynamics they will do great for 2-channel also.

Default Crossover

Looking at my setting on the Amp the crossover for all my speakers is set to 120hz i notice that the settings can be changed manually and that the 80hz setting has (THX) next to it. I did set it up using Auddisey and the equaliser is set to that. You can see the setup i have in siniature and my room size is 12 ft wide by 22 ft long although rear speakers are set about 13ft back , can anyone tell if these crossover setting seem about right or way off or can you not tell ?

Just found this on manual :

Crossover Frequency: 5kHz 60Hz - 180Hz 24dB/octave lowpass

so i assume that the 120hz crossover is not beyond the capability of my speakers

Crossover is determined by the Low Frequency range of the speakers you have. IF the Frequency Response is 55 hz - 20k hz, then your Low Frequency is 55hz, and your crossover should be 10-20 hz above that, so say approximately 65-75 hz since your receiver will probably only do it in whole numbers, like 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 120 etc., you should set your crossover at say 70 or 80 hz.

THX recommends a crossover at 80 hz.
