USA BD Live

I'm fairly new to the BD scene. I have a VIZIO VBR231 Blu-ray DVD Player and was wondering how does BD Live work exactly? Do I have to be signed onto that particular discs BD Live website when trying to view the extras or what? My player is wireless and I can stream via Netflix and Pandora through it, but when I try to access the BD stuff it gives me that generic message about being connected to the internet, blah, blah. Anyway, wondering if some of you experts can explain it to the newbie? Thanks in advance.

Not sure, but I think you have to enable the BD-Live option on the player. Don't have mine connected at the time though.

also some players require that you have at least a 1 or 2 gb thumb drive attached as well

Simply, BD-Live allows BD movies to access additional web-based media, such as additional movie-related content. Information on the movie or items related to a movie (such as sequels or other breaking news) can be "up to date" and relevant to the time you access the content, no matter how "old" the movie/disc is.

BD-Live enable discs will let you access this additional content generally via a "BD-Live" option in the movie's main menu.

A high-speed internet connetion and on-player storage are required.

The internet connection to the player is achieved either through a wired, ethernet connection on the player, or a wireless connection to the player, if so equipped.

More Profile 2.0 BD players (players which conform to standards allowing for BD-Live access/use) are including storage built-in to the player nowadays, but many still require the use of a USB thumb drive or other removable storage, such as an SD card. Generally, a 1GB minimum for storage is required/recommended.

And just so you know ahead of time, BD-Live has become infamous for causing all kinds of problems with many blu-rays you try to play because of the use of Java on the discs. It's hit or miss but most people have learned to just leave it off and if you have a memory storage on your player to erase that periodically to get the disc to play if you are having problems. I'd check other owners of your player and see what the history is with having BD-Live enabled. here is the link to the thread over at AVS Forum on your player. you should be able to find out everything you need to know there and there is a thread in this forum on you player also. Just check below your post and you will see it.
