I have never shipped any myself, but most people flatten them, and then ship them in a padded envelope.

add to this I would probably wrap tissue paper around it to protect the art from rubbing on the cardboard

I'd put it in a sandwich ziplock bag, and put bubble wrap around it and ship it in a small box.
