I never thought these flicks would ever see a blu release. Good to see these smaller classics getting released.
I'll pick these up for sure. ![]() Dementia 13 Blu-ray Dementia 13 Blu-ray Review ![]() The Terror Blu-ray The Terror Blu-ray Review Last edited by Deciazulado; 04-23-2011 at 06:17 PM. Reason: covers |

When weren't they going to get a release?? And, as expected, from the good folks at HD Cinema Classics....Whoever they are. ![]() (And given most PD-vultures, we probably will get Little Shop of Horrors and A Bucket of Blood next.) |

There really isn't any reason that a PD release would be any worse than a major studio release. All it takes is a good 35 print. There are lots of those on Dementia 13. There won't be all the scratch removal and grain smoothing, but that's a good thing in my opinion. I prefer blurays that look like film when they're projected.

Free things tend to attract companies that can't afford anything else. Real studios (such as Warner restoring the Fleischer Popeyes and Supermans, or Criterion restoring Charade and 39 Steps) can afford some nice Lowry goodness--While a mom-and-pop company that wants to tag along with the big boys tends to be grateful they can slap it on silver and push it on a shelf at all. I remember getting into a big argument with an animation-fan board over the fact that they were so surprised that Koch's "Gulliver's Travels" Blu turned out as badly as it did, when I'd kept saying "Dude, it's public domain and a no-name studio, were you honestly expecting Criterion?? ![]() (We birth-of-DVD fans, when there was a blitz of back-alley "50 Classic Films on 3 DVD's!" sets, joke about the new kids not knowing their Classic PD Title List, like we used to have drilled into our memory by repetition like the multiplication tables--Little Princess, D.O.A., Sherlock Holmes, Little Shop of Horrors... Geez, never mind Night of the Living Dead, some people today can't even name the six PD Three Stooges shorts! ![]() Last edited by EricJ; 01-07-2011 at 06:45 PM. |

There are plenty of PD videos that are of high quality. The recent Flicker Alley Chaplin Keystones, the Fatty Arbuckle box on Mackinac, Kino's great silent blurays and DVDs, Blackhawk Films, Thunderbean, Bosko Video. Even the dollar DVDs at Pick N Save And Dollar Tree have outstanding prints and transfers sometimes. It all depends on the condition of the source materials. Smaller companies may not have the resources to restore a beat print, but they can certainly make superb videos from clean ones.

I thought The Stranger was from this company, Arts Alliance America https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movies.php?studioid=682 or is it the same company with 2 different names. |
