It will be nice to be able to take a tablet out, but personally I'm looking forward to something I can keep handy around the house to check email, website, and such while I'm going about my life. I already love my Droid's DVR app and Cable Remote app. I can really see some opportunity for Sony to do something similar with a tablet and the PS3, PSP, and PS Phone - especially the PS3. I'd love to be able to be watching TV or playing a game/movie on the PS3, and checking out my PSN store or answering a friends request or browsing the XMB. For me a PS Tablet needs to be less about gaming (though that is important) and more about giving me a tablet similar to the iPad or Xoom that seamlessly intergrates with PSN & Qriocity. I don't need a 4th totally seperate gaming device (in addition to a console, a handheld, and a phone), I need a tablet option that (if I decide I really want a tablet), doesn't give me a new independant content portal/mechanism and instead builds on the existing one I've invested in. From a gaming side, I think I'd rather see the tablet more leverage honeycomb, the android market games, and PS Phone games than tack on a physical controller just to execute PSP/PSP2 games. Though one thing that should be a must in a PS Tablet is the ability for you to pipe your PSP2 or PS Phone display to the Tablet. That way, if I have a PSP2 and a PS Tablet I can use the PSP2 as the controller and the Tablet as the screen - that would be a much better solution to me than craming a physical controller on the tablet. I know that some will say "wow, that's a lot of kit that you are expecting people to buy to take full advantage of it", but I think the trick is to make all these devices stand on their own, but stand stronger when connected - and then give the customer the option of buying the pieces they want. (Sorry you asked now Max? ![]() |

Sounds interesting. Can't wait to see what this all entails. I think that Sony needs to be real innovative with it. Too much copying of others' good ideas for them lately (a handheld device with PSP, a Playstation phone, and now this).

They hit all the right points to at the very least give me pause about buying a Xoom.
![]() With the wi-fi Xoom (and 4G) hitting later I think I may sit this out a little while and see what Sony does. A tablet that can intergrate with a PS3 and bravia TV in addition to everything else sounds pretty cool. Shame it sounds like it will have the "VAIO tax" even if it's not branded as a VAIO. ![]() Also, queue the ineveitable questions. Can the tablet and phone share PSOne games at least? Will the tablet have more/deeper Qriocity/PSN intergration than the phone? Engadet's sources have been on fire over the last year or two when it comes to Sony, so color me very excited. ![]() |

The S1 looks very nice, but I'm surprised they are going with Tegra, I figured on MSM8660 and then a quick refresh after the holidays to MSM8960 to properly compete with iPad.
I've had hands on with a proof of concept with it and it is very nice to hold, the design is beyond the regular slab of screen with a bezel, but the internals are lacking with just Tegra 2. |

and yes, tegra 2 is pretty underwhelming. as are the rumored price points. i can only assume nvidia can't be trusted to get tegra 3 out on time? |

Unfortunately this isn't exactly the right time for them to be trying to show off a tablet with the Qriocity/PSN ecosystem as a primary selling point.
![]() Still thinking this may be my foray into a tablet even if a little underpowered as long as the intergration is good. |

I would so buy a Sony Tablet. The quality on Sony products is unprecedented. If it worked with the TV as a remote and PlayStation games that would just be icing on the cake.

I have no desire to buy one, but I want to see Sony do well after the BS hacking crap. |
