Default Samsung has some nerve

This was just put up on AVS.

FYI, nothing new, but Just received this email from samsung:

Thank you for contacting us.

The firmware that was released for the Blu-Ray player does not address the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, Die Hard, or Superbad, as well as any other movie released in the last 4 weeks. We will have a fix for this in the next 1-2 weeks. This is not a problem with the Blu-Ray player. The producers of the movies ( 20th Century Fox, Pixar etc.) are not sharing the format of the movies they are releasing prior to the actual release dates. Which in turn causes us to create a firmware solution after the movies are released. If we had cooperation from the production companies, these firmware updates would be pre-installed in the unit or available prior to the release of the movie to prevent these format issue we are experiencing. All Blu ray manufacturers are having the same problem.

Thank you,
Talk about a lie. I am begining to think that Samsung is working for HD DVD.

Whats up Samsung players anyway? Always something it seems. Get a Panny BD 30 and end the problems once and for all.

I still have the 1200 but if you notice my first line fo the sig it has been replaced by a working player for about 2 months now. It just really makes me think do I want to give this piece of junk to my brother to get him into Blu-ray. Since it might just backfire.

Well if it's free to your brother, he can't complain too much. I just don't understand all of the threads Iv'e seen posted here about Samsung players not living up to expectations.

It seems to me that you need to consider the source from where this post came from. They're almost completely specific as to which films you would have a problem with. It just seems so suspect...

I had the Sony 300 and now the Panny BD30. I have all the BDs these guys have ever talked about having trouble with and I have never had a problem on either player as does the Samsung units seem to have.

The problem with all of this is that there are as many Samsung answers as there are folks contacting them. Another AVS poster was told the update would release today, etc. etc. etc. This will stop only when the firmware update is actually released and shown to work with recent titles. Until then, all folks can do is share Samsung war stories, speculate and rant.

I'm the proud owner of the BDP-S300 and I have not had any problems with any of the blu-ray or standard dvds I've watched on it. It just seems strange that specific blu-ray movies were mentioned for a specific player, you know what I mean?

Right. I had the Sony 300. Great Player! Never downloaded any firmware. Never needed to. So again, what is it with the Samsung players?

Agreed.

To me the bigger problem is that they would send out such an email saying that is happing with the other players as well. I have had their reps tell me that and the first thing out of my mouth is are you sure. And if they say yes I explain to them that I have 3 players and theirs is the only one having a problem. They get very quiet at that point. So I do know that is the corporate line that is the studios fault.

And of course if looks bad for Blu-ray since those that have problems are much more likely to post about it.

I don't know of any problem with Superbad's playability on the 1200. That alone makes me question the source of that email.

That's what I did. What a difference! I can actually use the 24fps option now and the speech matches the lips.

I gave the 1200 to my brother, but he doesn't mind since it was free.

My brother watched the movie fine on my old 1200, and he didn't have any problems. He didn't go through the extras though.

I am really staring to wonder if maybe it is not the Broadcom chip. Since they were the only CE to go with them were the others went with Sigma.

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for SAMSUNG to get that firmware update out. I called about LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD not working on their 1400 model on Nov. 20th. I was told there would be a firmware update within about 2 weeks. Guess what- It has almost been a MONTH now...and No Update. Or maybe they've finally had it with all the calls about non-playback and will finally get their technicians on it.

That's what I always thought. The 1400 seems much better. I wonder what chip is in that one.

That one has the Sigma 8634 rev C chip. Which is why if they put in 256mb of ram it should be a 1.1 machine. Since that chip is a certified 1.1 and 2.0 chip.

I don't know how or why you guys even have the patience to put up with this. Take it back and get a Panny BD 30. No more problems. End of story. I feel bad for you having to live with this mess of waiting for up-dates that never come just to watch a movie. Thats insane.
