Default The Razzies

Quote:
Ballots for the Golden Raspberry (Razzie) Awards have been mailed out, and some of 2010's biggest genre films are among the finalists for the annual honoring of Hollywood's best worst films of the year. (Final nominations will be announced Jan. 24.)

According to the Los Angeles Times, the Razzies shortlist for worst picture include The Bounty Hunter, Clash of the Titans, The Expendables, Grown Ups, Jonah Hex, Killers, The Last Airbender, Little Fockers, Sex and the City 2, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Vampires Suck and Yogi Bear.

The Razzies have added a new category this year: worst 3D movie. The films eligible in that category reportedly include Piranha 3D, The Nutcracker in 3D and Resident Evil: Afterlife.

The Times says Burlesque is on the Razzie shortlist for worst screenplay, worst director, worst supporting actor (Cam Gigandet), worst supporting actress (Kristen Bell and Cher) and worst actress (Christina Aguilera).

Potential worst supporting actor nominees include Mickey Rourke (for Expendables and Iron Man 2) and George Lopez (for Marmaduke, The Spy Next Door and Valentine's Day). Worst supporting actress candidates include Jessica Alba (for The Killer Inside Me, Little Fockers, Machete and Valentine's Day) and Emily Blunt (for The Wolfman and Gulliver's Travels). Angelina Jolie is up for worst actress for The Tourist

the Expendables has no right being on that list. I agree it had it's shortcomings but it was a great action flick and that's all it set out to do. I do agree with others like Clash being on the list. I thought Clash was ok but I was expecting way more. But if I had to pick one off the list that is the worst it's The Bounty Hunter. I blind bought that trash hoping for a good movie and man was I let down. Not a single laugh in that cliche of a movie.

Wow Expendables, I have to say I am shocked. Maybe the Razzies missed the memo that Expendables is a throwback to the 80s action movies, and really was not supposed to be taken seriously nor be anything but fun. Whatever it will not win, we all know Twilight deserves that win, and yes I know Yogi is nominated.

Gotta disagree. It was pretty bad. I actually fell asleep watching it. Great casting, bland film.

Though I have to say Clash of the Titans is most deserving of winning. Wow, that was just terrible.

I thought the Expendables was a fun action movie not deserving of a Razzy. Perhaps they're just trying to get attention for their little award show.

You are in the minority though for people that have seen it. Everyone I know loved it and it was a success in the theaters. There are plenty of other bad films from last year that could take it's place. Also are you a fan of 80's action?

Skyline is not well known enough to get the razzies in the news, so it is not nominated at least for the categories we see above.

Actually I take it back. Jonah Hex was way worse than Clash of the Titans. Way way worse.

Yes, I am a fan of 80's action. But while this might have some of the feel, it had little of the charm.

I disagree. Yeah many of the classic 80's action movies are better but this is the closest anyone has come to making a great 80's throwback action movie.

I may be flamed for this, but I enjoyed Jonah Hex. It had some sweet LFE too.

I don't get it either. Granted I love the original, but I found the new one appealing enough. Some people were tainted on the movie by the horrific 3d transfer that was forced upon it. Shoot me, I liked it and own it on Blu.

I didnt see it in theaters but regardless 3D doesnt make a film as far as how good it is or how entertaining it is. I think most people just hate the fact that it was a remake of a classic. To me the original aged very bad so I was very happy for a remake and was happy with the result. Oh well we like what we like. Cant wait for part 2. Got Em!!

The original held up just fine. The remake not only bastardized the story, but spat on the original version. Just low class.

Naw I recently watched the original and mind u I was a huge fan when I was younger but man was it terrible this time around. I couldnt do it. I was hurt and very disappointed. Thats how it is sometimes. I think the remake paid good homage and stood on its own. Got Em!!

You don't have to have seen the original to hate the remake with a murderous passion, but it sure does help:
The original was a look into the adventure-books-and-dinosaurs mind of Ray Harryhausen, the remake was a freakin' TRAIN...WRECK...of condescending big-studio ideas to "cure" the "problems" of the original, a West-Coast fascination with the CGI FX That Can Do Anything, and a genetic Frankenstein-patching of other producer's abandoned movie projects (ahemgodofwar), the sacred inviolatable studio Law of 300 (all ancient period movies, whether Greek, Roman or Viking, by law, must now shout "We are Sparta!"), and default 00's Little Movie Glossary entries (Perseus just wanted his dad! )
Fan of the old movie or not, I could physically not watch the new one past the first 15 minutes, just on how much industrial-strength dopiness was being thrown around with the faintest hint of understanding what the two source materials were about, and that was even in 2-D: Even picking out one Just So Wrong idea the producers had going in, and say "They thought X" or "They tried to be Y", doesn't even begin to cover it, as we're talking about six or seven Just So Wrong ideas all smashing into each other headfirst and trying to out-cool each other.

In the Razzies' case, however, with all the "deserving" corporate big-studio hype that had been built up before the opening, it's Just Gay Enough to win. Technically, we're not even looking at the nominations yet, which are another two weeks away, and the reporter just wanted to play Prediction-Boy, but it's not exactly as "suspenseful" as the Oscars: Keep in mind, the Razzies have always been the E!-Soup bit of closet-gay celeb-bashing who giggle with naughty furtiveness at any mention of Paris Hilton , and what will she get ritually symbolic-nominated for this year?
(Case in gay point, what do you think are the relative PROBABILITIES that Cher, Xtina and "Burlesque"--which looks sorta like "Showgirls"!--will make some relative sweep this year?...Nahhh. )

Expendables will automatically be up there for their Annual Sylvester Stallone joke (which they've been making since 1983, fer cryin' out loud!), Twilight is still making sequels, and while Nutcracker and Yogi richly deserve mention of Worst 3-D, it's not just technical reasons that you know who'll be winning that category, too.
