Heavy Rain Problem - Blu-ray Forum

I'm not sure if this is the right thread to post this in. I did a search for just plain ole Heavy Rain, but came up short. So I made this one.

My issue is just this.

I just poped the game in my phat PS3, waited about a half hour for 1250 plus MB of updates. I get past all that & get to the screen where it tells me to keep my "Move" controller tight; I don't have a "Move" connected though. It then go's black, screen icon on the bottom right pops up letting me know it's loading something.

The next screen is a screen with a picture showing the PS Eye, saying either connect it or press the "X" button to continue. It will NOT continue.. Not one damn button will work except the button where I can quit. So I try that thinking I can back up & try again. Well when I it the quit button, it hangs, beeps twice like it's trying to do something, & that's it. I can't even quit the game without completely turning off my system from the back, which is effin crazy..

The game will not play. Wont load up or anything. WTH is going on? The updates loaded, WTH wont it get past the PS Eye screen? Has this happened to anyone else? I want to play this game already, but I simply can't get it to play.

My friend has a PS Slim, & it plays fine. I have a PS3 phat with the basic controller without rumple. Not sure if that's the problem or not. I just need help getting it to play. This is BS.

I don't know what the problem could be, sorry. I'm sure somebody here can sort it out though. Perhaps deleting the game info and trying a re-install?

is not the problem. I had no problems playing it with my phat & rumble-less controller. Sorry I can't help more.

seems like you are not the only one..too bad I can't access other gaming sites, that are discussing it, here at work..

It keeps asking me to plug in the PS Eye.. I don't have one. My friend played it just fine without going through this crap. He pressed the "X" button & went right past it; played it with the duel-shock. Talk about aggravating.

Thank you guys. I thought it was just my copy or my PS3. I wasn't aware that this as an issue. I'll keep @ it.

P.S.

@ KamiAmaya, that's good to know. I don't want to have to get another PS3. I still play old-school PS1/PS2 games all the time.

Out of curiosity, do you have other controllers connected? (Rock Band instruments/dongles, perhaps)?

As I recall, Heavy Rain really, really, REALLY wants you to be on Controller 1.

To check, press and hold the PS button and see if your SixAxis is assigned to Controller 1. If not, force it to be Controller 1, and that will hopefully fix your problem.

I was going to suggest this too.

Disconnect everything from your USB ports and make sure the controller you're using is on 'port 1'.

No, I only have the one controller hooked up. Had two, one broke, so i'm down to just the one. I'm guessing it's this up-date. It's made me unable to play there game. I hope they understand that this had happened. It just cost them sixty dollars..

I haven't played my Heavy Rain in a while and don't even have the PS Move, so i'm just curious: the next time i put the disc in couldn't i just not do the update and have trophies and stuff still work?

No, the up-date is automatic. It's also a sizeable up-date @ that. A little over a gig's worth, so you're guna have to wait a bit before you play. I'm guna have to assume it's my phat PS3 that's the prob, 'cause a slim with the same up-date plays just fine.

You can always play offline to avoid an update to a game. Not a choice you should be required to make, but a choice, nonetheless. You can then sync trophies later after you've finished playing.

Oh boy that is quite a large update. I also have my 60GB system still and fear that it will run out of room with all the upcoming games i want to get lol.

Ahhh, now that is a genius idea!

Especially since there is no online component to Heavy Rain and i don't really need to show my online friends i'm playing it.

It sounds like a good idea, but in my case, it won't work. It's like the game is made to play just with "move". Whatever the up-date did, it bricked my copy from playing without buying a move. I just got this game, and can't even play it. Pisses my off. They need to fix this crap.

I've looked for a way to contact Quantum Theory, but found a lot of useless info. If anyone can provide a e-mail or a way of contacting them, i'd be grateful. They need to know this is happeneing. I just want to play the damn game already..

Why wouldn't it work for you? You would just delete the Game Data and play offline. That way you don't get the update that "bricks" your copy.

The developers are Quantic Dream, not to be confused with the awful game.

Bonus. Signed out of the PS3 when I turned it on. It seems to be installing the game, wich is good sign seeing as I've never gotten a chance to get this far in. I hit the "O" button declining the up-date, so I think I'm well on my way to playing.

Maybe after I get a saved game under my belt, I can log in & try playing on-line again. Think that'll work, or do I have to ignore trophies just to play it?

@ PirateBooty, Thanks bro. And to the rest, thank you. I'm able to play it, can't get the trophies, but I can play it.

Well once the data is erased, and you put the game in, it should ask you to do the update, but you should have the option to press "o" to cancel. If you don't have the option, turn off the internet before putting the game in.
