Smile Newby Uk Blu Ray User needs help

Hi All,

I've just imported a Samsung BD-P1000 from the US and saved over £400.
The system appears to have the new firmware as it doesn't have the hour glass.

I own Superman Returns Region A
Into the Blue Region B
Exorcism of Emily Rose Region B

My Questions are:

Why do these region B movies play on a Region A machine?
If its because they are really region Free, does anyone have a full list of Region free movies.

I have tried the Region 1 DVD hack without success, does anyone know of one that works?

where is the best place to buy Movies for the UK...

I bought superman from the US as long as the value is shown to be under £18 there is no duty...

The others are off Amazon.co.uk

I'm about to buy S.W.A.T from hmv.co.uk as its only £11.99 inc Postage, but will only purchase depending on my first question.

Finally where is the cheapest place to buy Crank region A.

Many thanks in advanced

There is an excellent site with all of the information you will need for region coding.

The only way to have a region free Samsung is to not install the second to last firmware upgrade, but unfortunately it is the most important one as it fixes the NR chip settings.

Play.com is where I get all of my BDs from online some very good deals to be had, if I am shopping, I generally go to HMV as they have the best selection at the moment.

For imports use Amazon.com, they have good prices, and with the dollar so weak it will generally work out to lower that £18 to save on VAT, and generally even if it is above £18 the chances of your package being checked for duty payments is relatively low.

Customs is very hit and miss, they got hold of my player, but the seller put the value @ £70... they charged me £53 vat duty and hadling fee from the post office...

A right rip off

No worries, I got mine from a B&M on Tottenham Court Road in London for £599, and it is region B, the mark up must be huge on these things if I can get him to go down from his original price of £829. I am starting to wish I had gone for the Panasonic instead.

Let me say I very much admire the British (and Europeans) and their resolve to enjoy things despite absolutely mind numbing prices.

We complain in Canada about crazy SRP differences, and street pricing, but it isn't even close to the same thing. And sometimes we actually end up being top dog (e.g. the lowest prices for the PS/3 outside Japan, and Paramount/Lionsgate titles).

I think you just get used to it after a while, and people will see a £500 price tag on something that would normally sell in the US for $700 and say it is expensive, but it is what is expected here and as on of the highest rated GNI/capita countries in the world, is it surprising? I read somewhere that the only countries in the world that had a higher rating were Ireland a couple of Scandinavian countries and Japan, oh and of course the mighty Luxembourg. So the prices are adjusted to local earnings, deal with it is, is what I say.

Hi,

Yep we just get used to it, but its why ebay is so successful.

But now the Government over here got ebay to share infomation with them, so they can tax sellers.

Uk seems to get the higher prices compaired to Germany and France...

A Harmony 895 remote control retails here for £299 Ive had to import from France for £155

Its a bit of a Joke....

Anyway where is the cheapest place to buy Crank region A

Crank I will have to leave to our American friends here, I wouldn't have a clue, try Amazon they always seem OK, or PlayUSA not sure whether they export though.

Some awesome prices!

I hear Tears of the Sun is a reference disc, so that should be good.
