I really don't understand since it doesn't generate any revenue...maybe somebody could explain it to me in layman's terms. I get that it has potential and all of that but that doesn't mean it should be worth money right now.

Are u serious?? Just like Myspace etc.....its all about users and hits. A site like Facebook which has I dont know over thousands and thousands of members, then they get hit up for advertising and sponsors due to how many people go on Facebook so they make a killing. For example lets say Pepsi see's that Facebook has over 100,000 members and hits they will email the ceo of Facebook and ask them if they could advertise on their website. Now imagine like 20 companies or even more doing that and how much money they are spending to do so. thats just the beginning of it. Got Em!!

At its core, Facebook is a data mining company (if you read their TOS, it says that Facebook owns every bit of info you supply it) with the personal details of hundreds of millions of people—each of which is worth money to potential advertisers.
Google is the same, but I tend to trust Google more than Facebook. |

I don't have a Facebook account but my wife does and I see a ton of them. A lot of them are placed there by members that have joined the advertiser's account which then filters down on to everyone's account. There are also a few on the right side of the pages.

Ya..I am not fond of giving out my personal information. Now FB implemented that "new profile setup" where it automatically gives your personal information to anyone who checks out your profile..obviously, you can restrict some of it but it gives your DOB, high school/college job etc.
A little too much info for me..to each his/her own I guess. I really got tired of FB quick. I find it worthless to update my status every day like millions do. I am curious about what will replace FB..I look forward to the day when FB becomes extinct much like Myspace has become. |
