How close to the TV will you be sitting? I find 40" rather small. I recently went from 42" to 50" and think that bigger might be better. (I'd also buy a Plasma over an LED/LCD TV and I'd buy a Panasonic over a Samsung, but I'm sure many people are happy with Samsung LED/LCDs).

Some of these sets have flash lighting and clouding issues. However, with the smaller 40" set probably won't be as bad as the larger set sizes. If your choosing this tv because of the 3d aspect you'll probably find it underwhelming due to the size of the Tv and may be disappointed. Don't know if your set on getting a 3d Tv but you could probably get a better model in your wanted size by sacrificing the 3d aspect. Also as the op asked you how far will you be sitting from the tv while watching/gaming in 3d?

Some of samsungs plasma's have serious ir issues, but it would be worth the try in my op. I'd get the plasma, then a 40'' 7000.

It really depends on what the Tv will be going through a day to day basis? How many hours a day will it be used doing different things, gaming, watching tv, movies etc. I'd stay away from Vizio personally but that's just me and I know some people like them. As for the plasma it's really depending on personal preference and what your going to primarily use the Tv for. Although plasma tv's have come a long way with regards to burn in, many models still have issues with image retention that for me is deal breaker considering how my tv's get used on a daily basis. Both led and plasma have strengths and weaknesses though and I'd recommend viewing all your considered choices in person before buying also. I don't know when your buying but I'm hoping we'll see some better deals popping up next weekend and the weekend after as we lead into the super bowl which may allow you to score an even better deal that what BB is offering right now.

I have the 63" Samsung and 3-D playback is awesome. The size of it is incredible looks really good in 3-D.

So all in all very happy with the Sammy.
