Seems like a lot of fuss over something that MIGHT be a problem. But it's a headline grabber isn't it; PS3 system hacked!!! shock, horror!
Sony will counter it one way or another and probably slap you with a lifetime PSN ban. It's not worth it, there's nothing homebrew could offer me that would make me want to risk screwing up my PS3. |

iPhone has been hacked. Windows has been hacked. The Pentagon has been hacked. The White House has been hacked. So the fact that the hacking occurred is not exceptional. It could be a problem for the PS3, though, if Sony does not respond with security measures.

Excuse me for being a little ahem *dumb* on the topic, but if I have NO interest in homebrew or piracy or Linux or whatever else people are wanting to do with their PS3's, all I want to do is play my PS3 games and download something from the network occasionally, do I have anything to worry about?
Thanks for honest responses and NOT making fun of me since I'm not knowledged on the subject. |

But no for the most part. There was a thread about it but I can't seem to find it now ![]() You can read about it in the MW2 thread though I guess: https://forum.blu-ray.com/blu-ray-ga...e-2-a-588.html |

No, your PS3 will be fine.
Someone is claiming they've uncovered the secret signature key that Sony use to authorise software to run on the PS3. If this group have uncovered it, it means that they can fool the PS3 into running software that's not been authorised by Sony. They claim they just want to run alternative operating systems on "their" console. But sadly, some moron is bound to find a way to use this hack to run copied games on a PS3. But if you're an honest, decent, PS3 gamer as I'm sure all us forumites are, then you can ignore the news about this. As far as I'm aware, the 360 was hacked a while back but that hasn't stopped top games being released on it. Sony could counter by finding a way to identify hacked consoles and banning their owners from using PSN, so no game store or online gaming. |
