Agreed, this is a better choice than the 705. I have the 805 and love it! Plus with free shipping at Amazon.com with the sale price they had it like at $699 or $729 or something like that; and with no sales tax, that is a good deal.

This depends on your budget obviously... I would recommend the 605, I have it and it kicks ass. But if you have the cash, or bigger speakers, it doesn't hurt to jump up and get the extra wattage and HDMI ports.

I think the Onkyo would be a better choice than the HK's. Thier quality has really declined in the past few years. Denon is way out of his price range I am sure of it...

If THX certification is not that important to you and only two HDMI inputs, the 605 (which you can find for $399 or less) would be a good choice.

No problem, you are quite welcome...

I had the 605 and upgraded to the 805 about 3 months in because I got the 805 at CC for $629.99. The only gripes I had with the 605 was that there was a popping noise when the receiver switched over to PCM (which hopefully they have fixed), it only had 2 HDMI inputs (I needed four), and the fact that I couldn't customize the inputs (also I needed the extra inputs). Everything else about the receiver was great! For what it does at the price point it is at it is well worth it.

I just bought the Onkyo 705 and so far I am very happy with it. Just listening to 300 on PCM is incredible!

what do you mean you could not customize the inputs? does the 805 have the popping noise?

WELL!!, we have a 3 way tie. i guess the yamaha is out of there!!!!

its a tough choice. at one time i was going to buy the pioneer elite 92 model, but price is dictating which one i get now and the $379 onkyo 605 @ amazon is a pretty sweet deal right now. i wish would have been home when CC had the 805 for $629, i would have snagged it, but it was only up at that price for a real short time. i know i can get a pioneer 92 for about $850 shipped. what is the 705 & 805 going for these days? anyone have any deals they know about? does amazon sell the 705 & 805?
