Gods and Generals Extended Director's Cut Blu-ray Review

I have seen on several different locations that the 6 hour extended Edition of Gods & Generals would be released in April as well as the Extended Edition of Gettysburg.

Has anyone else heard or seen anything on these two (with some inaccuracies) excellent movies?

Now where or not these will be on Blu-ray is anyone's guess. However as some of you may know this year we are entering the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War and if there was any shot of the Extended or Director's Cut of these two films seeing the light of day. I would think it would be over the next three to four years.

I have also seen where the Ken Burn's: The Civil War series from PBS will be re-released again in the near future. However again I haven't heard if it will be on Blu-ray. I think this would make the 3rd release of this series so I would hope this one would be on Blu-ray.

I agree i would love to see these both released, they are my number 1 all time favorite civil war film, another one i would like to see on bluray is Cold Mountain.

I heard out the release as a director's cut for Gods and Generals just nothing on Gettysburg.

If Ken Burns releases Civil War on Bluray i will Buy it.

The MPAA recently rated an extended cut of Gods and Generals so, yes, an extended cut Blu-ray IS in the works.

EDIT: The rating is PG-13 but I have no idea how long it is.

Extended Gods & Generals? The original version was long enough. The worst part about it is that Gods & Generals did not make enough money for Maxwell to make The Last Full Measure, but you never know maybe he'll still tackle it in the future.

Me being a Civil War buff, I will definately be getting these! Strange that they released G&G on blu but not Gettysburg?, very strange Not that many Civil War films on blu at the momo:

as of now I own the following Civil War related blus:

Gods and Generals
Gone With The Wind (Scarlett Edition)
The Good The Bad and The Ugly
Ride With The Devil (Criterion)
Glory
Gangs Of New York (Remastered)
How The West Was Won
Dances With Wolves (extended version)
The Colt

and one documentary blu:

Civil War Battlefields (not the best doc on the subject, but well worth the $2.37 I payed for it at Borders.com, plus it's the only Civil War doc on blu as of my writing this)

I also have many othet DVD's and book on the subject, way to many to mention!

PS, I would love to take part in a Civil War reenactment in the future, that would be intersting, educational, and fun all the same time!

I've heard that a 5 or 6 hour cut of G&G was in the works. We'll see what happens in April. I really want Gettysburg on Blu. Speaking of which, if anyone hasn't been there it's worth a trip. I'm about 3 hours from the battlefield and it's an amazing place. You can literally spend a week there. West Point Cadets usually study the area for their own perspective on the battle. Everything there is really state of the art and the new museum is excellent.

Well said. I have been there about 5 times myself and I re-enacted in the largest Civil War re-enacted that has ever taken place, which took place there in 1998 (135th Anniversary of Gettysburg).

That must have been an awesome experience. I'd really like to do that sometime. Was it basically a volunteer thing or did you actually have to try out to be a part of it?

I wish Gods and Generals and Gettysburg would get a theatrical remake. They should add more blood and gore, violence, disturbing war images, better picture, CGI, acting, and make it a 2-3 hour film. DTS-HD MA will also be included for the strong action scenes.

I've heard that its haunted. Have you seen any paranormal activities while you were there?

I wouldn't be surprised. The tour guide I had said it's a lot different at night and there are still bodies yet to be discovered. I think he said they found one in the late 90's so it's still a sacred place and I'm sure it probably does have some form of paranormal activity.

Since you live so close, why won't you spend the night there all by yourself? Next thing, you'll be saying,"I see dead people".

I'd definitely do it. I'm not sure of the rules though lol. I don't think they want people camping out on the battlefield though. It wouldn't faze me one bit.

Agree with that; I grew up about 30 miles away from Gettysburg, so I have been there many times in all seasons, including once where the roads were closed in preparation for paving. I walked from the National Museum (close to High Water Mark) to Little Round Top without seeing another person, very eerie. I haven't seen the new museum yet, but will probably visit when I am on travel next month. I still don't understand why "Gods and Generals" was released before "Gettysburg", by far the better of the two movies.

It's a volunteer thing. First you have to be part of a unit. I was part of the 37th Illinois Volunteer Regiment, which fell under the Frontier Battalion. It was probably the best thing I did during my teenage years as it was loads of fun running around with a .58 caliber Springfield musket and shooting black powder blanks.

Maxwell is already working on his next CW Film.

The only good thing I see possibly coming out of this would be seeing the Battle of Franklin on film which had a larger, bloodier and deadlier assault on Union lines than Picket's Charge did at Gettysburg.

Ah that makes sense. It definitely sounds like a lot of fun.
