Default Immortals Review Thread (Use Spoiler Tags)

Immortals is an upcoming 2011 fantasy-action drama film directed by Tarsem Singh and starring Henry Cavill, Freida Pinto, and Mickey Rourke.

quoted from wiki, since I can't access imdb at work
From Tarsem Singh, who brought us The Cell and The Fall. Seems like a departure from him based on those other two movies, but should be visually stunning, if he doesn't depart too much!

If someone can put up the imdb link, I'd be appreciative!

This is one of my most anticipated movie of the year. Judging by our 2011 film thread in this forum, this and a bunch of other big movies (like Speilberg's Tintin and Scorsese's Hugo Cabret, to mention a few) are somehow flying under the radar of many members. I'm a huge fan of Tarsem's visual style: The Cell, The Fall, Benjamin Button... They're all incredibly beautiful works or art. It's even more amazing that he doesn't use CGI on his films. I'm very much looking forward to this.

I did a quich search and didn't find mention of it. I'll browse the 2011 film thread. I agree, I love his style. I'm sure this film will be equally visually appealing. I agree about some flying under the radar, considering how much talk Batman 3, Superman, Hobbit, etc. are getting. However, I'm glad that Black Swan is getting a lot of that talk, although I suspect much of it was for the "make out" scene. But, as they say, any news is good news!

here's a plot summary from IMDB.

never heard anything about this until the announcement of Cavill being cast as Superman.

i love greek mythology and can't wait to hear more about this movie.

Quote:
Eons after the Gods won their mythic struggle against the Titans, a new evil threatens the land. Mad with power, King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) has declared war against humanity. Amassing a bloodthirsty army of soldiers disfigured by his own hand, Hyperion has scorched Greece in search of the legendary Epirus Bow, a weapon of unimaginable power forged in the heavens by Ares. Only he who possesses this bow can unleash the Titans, who have been imprisoned deep within the walls of Mount Tartaros since the dawn of time and thirst for revenge. In the king's hands, the bow would rain destruction upon mankind and annihilate the Gods. But ancient law dictates the Gods must not intervene in man's conflict. They remain powerless to stop Hyperion...until a peasant named Theseus (Henry Cavill) comes forth as their only hope. Secretly chosen by Zeus, Theseus must save his people from Hyperion and his hordes...

That was David Fincher...not Tarsem

That said, I'm really looking forward to this. It's got a great cast, and I can't wait to see it

Yeah, I know it's Fincher's, but he actually worked on it too. Look it up. You could tell in the cinematography.

I didn't know he did an Second Unit stuff in it. I thought it was just Fincher and Claudio Miranda who had done stuff in it. I never really noticed any of his influence over the movie

Thanks for telling me

I hope it's nothing like Clash of the Titans. Hopefully he can pull of mainstream while still keeping the feel of his earlier works. Yes, a Greek epic feels mainstream to me.

The plot sounds interesting. Tarsem is definitely good at making interesting films. The Fall is a fantastic film. I'm looking forward to this.

Those pics look good. The colors in the second one are great! I hope Mickey Rourke pulls it off, though I have to admit, he's been doing well lately.

It's great that I already know this is a Tarsem film. If not, the tagline in the posters would have turned me off completely.
