I have an old fat 60gb ps2 with a fan that's too noisy even when it's relatively cool. It's obviously out of warranty so I'm willing to replace the fan. Anybody done this before? I apologize if this has already been discussed.

For the sake of your PS3's health, I would replace your fan with this modified fan from Sudburymods.com.
https://www.sudburymods.com/PS3fanmod.html Watch the video on the site. When Sudbury repairs the YLOD, which is due to overheating and failure of the GPU, they install this mod with the repair. They have had such good success with the repair and fan mod, they offer a lifetime guarantee on the repair, and that is largely due to the fan mod. The fan starts running right away, and it is at a speed above the PS3's initial fan speed which is barely on. However, since the modified fan doesn't wait for the GPU to heat up before turning on, it keeps it sufficiently cool and doesn't have to kick onto the higher speeds. Unfortunately, I received a YLOD just after Christmas, and I sent my PS3 to Sudbury to have it repaired and the fan mod installed. you can buy the fan mod separately and install it yourself too. |
