Good. The player was nothing but trouble and would confuse consumers and prolong the "war". Now that the DVD Forum has spit in their face, hopefully LG will just release another standalone BD player and help drive some more nails in the HD-DVD coffin.

LG needs to put out this press release: "We were just trying to throw HD-DVD (a dying format) a bone; since they are too stuborn to accept the handout we will now be exclusive to the technology of the future: Blu-Ray."

Well, its comforting to see that the DVD Forum is just as delusional as the morons who worship them... but then again, this is rather indicative of modern society... by God, its their right to have the world cater to them! WE'LL SUE FOR GODS SAKE!

I am by no means a fanboi, in fact, to a certain extent, I was feeling kind of bad for all those people with serious high dollar investments, but you know what, screw em', they made a choice, and they brought it on themselves.

They need to sit down, shut the hell up, and be damn glad that ANYONE is supporting their format to whatever extent their benefactors see fit.

Unfortunately, this is probably legal manouvering, they are betting that its easier (cheaper) for LG to rework their production units to make them compliant so they can sell them at the original price point, than it is for LG to snip the wire to the second lens, and take a price cut just to clear them off the shelves. Right now, any production units are a sunk cost, and the concept the DVD Forum and those following them can't seem to grasp, is that you can't allow sunk costs to drive future fiscal decisions.

I just hope the HD-DVD fanatics will wait for this LG player, thereby stunting the sale of players from Toshiba.

And I hope that if the DVD Forum wins their suit against LG to make the combo player compliants, the additional work needed to make the player compliant will either add US$500 to the price or force LG to cancel the player.

The LG player is out there for sale, without an HD DVD logo on it. I don't think they'll get in much trouble now.

The A20, Chinese, TL51 and the promise of combo-drives will severely slow down HD DVD sales. There is already indications it has, as the Value Electronics guy is now denying 1080p/24 on the A20. I believe because his sales of at least XA2s have collapsed.

And people looking honestly at the situation will realize that all that has to happen for Blu-ray to win is Universal to wake up. And by buying into BD, they are helping that occur sooner.

Unless Universal wants nothing to succeed, they will support BD this year.
