better cable provider - Blu-ray Forum

Hey guys.

Dont have cable right now but do have internet through comcast. Was thinking to go with comcast for cable but there are so many options, but they are all really close to each other price wise ... but dont know about quality.

Any suggestions in Seattle area? One better than the other one?

Can't say much for Comcast...I have Direct TV and totally happy with there service...great HD with many packages to choose from.

My sister has satelite tv and hates it. The signal is always dropping when its bad weather as opposed to comcast which I have

Get either DirecTV or Verizon Fios if it's in your area. Stay away from Comcast like the Plague. My wife and I had Comcast in the past and we had a lot of problems with it. Both of our parents have had similar problems, losing signals, billing issues, and outrageous price hikes. Their customer service is also abysmal.

YEP!! We had them as they had the monopoly over our area back in the early 2000's and it took them 4 months of calling to get a service person out, then when they lost the monopoly to fios coming in 1 week

worst customer service ever, and they are very overpriced even compared to Dtv.

Fios probably has the best prices (at least for us it was to get the triple bundle of phone, TV, NET), but their DVR sucks compared to DirectTV although they did have more choices on demand when I switched (not sure about it now)

I just not big in to watching television. Just blu rays and netflix sometimes.
But sounds like direct TV is better deal over all. Although I'm not sure about their internet. Does anyone have internet with them?

Verizon actually offers some kind of bundle with Dtv and internet... Depending how much you wanted to spend and if it was available in your area, fios would probably give you more net speed for your buck, not sure about how the basic tv packages stack up against one another though.

How does DirecTV compare to Fios in quantity of HD channels as well as quality? My wife and I are in the process of buying a house and are considering making the move from Fios to DirecTV. (The place where we are currently renting from does not allow dishes)

I am stuck with Direct TV for now, Fios isn't available in our area here in PA.My brother in law has Fios over in Jersey and its much better, blazing fast internet with Fios channels same has Direct TV.

I'm not sure where you live in Pennsylvania, but it seems to be expanding pretty quickly. I imagine it'll take some time to get to some of the more rural areas.

I am in central PA, I keep checking with Verizon so has soon they come in the area I will know, just a matter of time.

I love my Fios through Verizon.

Direct TV is not able to match the price. I have Verizon as a bundle, TV and Internet, $84.99 a month, $106 after all the cable boxes and taxes.

We switched because at the time (maybe a year or more ago) they offered way more movie channels something like 3 more hbo's, 3 more cinemax's, exc. but as far as standard channels I don't think theres much of a difference. It pretty much seems to be the same lot of channels (minus the 20+ movie channels we've gained from all those packages)

But we gained those channels what seems to be better On Demand and bundled pricing so it worked out ok

It'll probably come down to pricing. Whoever can give us the most for our buck gets our money. They do seem pretty comparable with the exception of NFL Sunday Ticket.

Where Im at this isnt the case and in fact is the opposite.

Their customer service has been great to us especially since the blizzard. The only time we lost phone and internet for 2 days. We got a credit of $75

Well I hope you don't ever have any problems with yours, but we had numerous problems over the course of a year. At one point when a service guy came out to fix it, it was a simple fix. He then asked if the customer service asked us to do some things to our cable box, and we said no. He replied with, "well that's Comcast customer service for you. You didn't hear that from me though." It would be a cold day in Hell when I gave money to Comcast again, I just find them to be a horrible company that cares more about quantity than quality.

Not sure if it is the same with Comcast, but seeing as you already have the net through them it might be worth looking into.

With highspeed internet coming into the house with my ISP/Cable provider, you are able to split the signal before going to your router or pc and run the coax cable to a tv set as well, giving you basic cable. If your tv has a built in tuner it may work, or you may need to purchase the cable box your provider uses. I dont do this as I have premium packages and whatnot for my cable but have been told this works as the basic cable is always already there, its just the upgraded package channels that need to be "turned on".
