Kes Blu-ray

Another Criterion Edition, which means: Start saving now!

I've watched this film years ago on Television and I liked it. Will probably get it, but not for $ 28.

Does anyone know if the DVD edition (and I guess the Blu will be the same) was the dubbed version or the original Yorkshire accent? In the first case we would miss the original voices, in the other case however, I would need to turn on subtitles.

Oh, I've just noticed: The DVD edition is also scheduled for 4/19. I thought this was just a BD-update. So forget the question about the DVD.

But maybe someone owns the VHS.

Well, that's the UK version, even if it's not listed as Import.
Maybe this is the first home video release in the U.S. for this film? I've read somewhere that the film was dubbed for the U.S. market because of the strong Yorkshire accent.

If the original soundtrack isn't included as well, I'll be cancelling my order. Can anyone verify exactly what soundtracks are going to be provided on this release?

Considering Loach supervised and approved the edition, it seems highly unlikely a dubbed version would be used, especially considering how definitive most Criterion releases are.

For what it's worth, I watched this film on Netflix Watch Instantly recently and while it was definitely not Criterion's transfer, it most certainly was not dubbed either.

I've contacted Criterion with this question 10 days ago and did not get an answer. So much for the support of these high-priced editions...

Wow, how did Dr. Svet Atanasov get the Blu as early as 3/31?

Anyway, now the question about the audio track is answered:

Picked this up for $15.96 during Criterion's "facebook" sale.

Watched it a couple of nights ago..... it's a solid transfer, and great film. I did not have the DVD prior to this for comparison purposes however.

It was a single day sale with a code a few months ago. I tried to buy something at the time but their store crashed for a while.

It's pretty weird, but when I switch the audio track between original and international, I can't detect any difference.
