Oh this is great news! I really enjoyed the mini-series, though it lost some of its shine towards the end. Wasn't the mini-series like 6 hours or more? I wonder how are they going to adapt that into a 2 hour movie. Maybe two 2+ hours films would be a better choice.

The miniseries had various strengths and weaknesses. Gary Sinise and Ruby Dee were perfectly cast. Molly Ringwald was woefully miscast. Also, SK worked too hard to include elements from the extended edition version of the book at the expense of including elements that were central to the story.
As this is my favorite SK book, I'd love to see a new adaptation, but I agree that one 3 hour movie would not work particularly well. 2 or 3 films would do the job more justice. |

It's a crime that I've still yet to read the book in its entirety. It's great that it's being made into a feature film, but there's no way they could adapt it into the space of two or three hours considering the novel is so lengthy. A trilogy might be the way to go.

As with others, I enjoyed this book quite a bit. I also enjoyed the miniseries. Here's the thing about adaptations of King - it's all about the ACTING. The best part about his books are the characters. How much I enjoy one of his books depends entirely on how much I enjoy the characters. That's just his style - a lot of time spent on character development. So it's no coincidence that the films/miniseries I enjoy have good acting performances: Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile, Shining, Misery, Carrie, Stand By Me, The Stand, It, Salem's Lot. The weaker movies: Cujo, Pet Semetary, Needful things, langoliers all have weaker acting (in my opinion anyway).
And, the other key is keeping Stephen King himself out of it as much as possible. Great writer but he just doesn't do a good job of deciding what to carry over into a movie. If for no other reason than he had to remake The Shining - for that alone he should never touch anything again. Sure it was different than the book, but it was great because Jack made it great. I'll be curious to see how it turns out. |

Hmmmm, I remember living through the entire decade of 80s hearing rumor after rumor of a movie version of The Stand, but nothing happened until the mini-series in the early 90s. I wonder if this rumor will lead to a movie or another miniseries sometime around 2023.

I LOVE Stephen King but Dreamcatcher is my least favorite of his books (out of the ones that I've read, obviously) and the film was TERRIBLE. At the end I couldn't tell if I wanted to laugh or cry at how badly the ****ed up what was already lame to begin with (the story of the book).

I remember hearing rumors of a The Stand movie for a long time now, too. Same thing with The Talisman. |

I really did, too. WOLF! I know I read the first Dark Tower book but never followed up with the rest, and I don't even know what Black House is! I kind of fell behind with my King reading after he got hit with the minivan.
