Default Best Buy Exclusive(possible baite & switch)?

Heads up guys, I went to two local Best Buys searching for the advertised
BB exclusive "Last house on the left" 1972.

I struck out in store #1 however at #2 they had two different versions
of LHOTL, both NOT the 1972 original in fact among the regular A-Z movies
they had a sale tag advertising LHOTL 1972 for 9.99
but it was the first remake not the original.

I asked for help locating the original I was told they have six copies in the store, after waiting I was told that they two remakes are the LHOTL that are
on sale they don't have the 1972 original.
It must be a corporate mistake I was show the iteam # on the tag & the movie which matched I was told if I had ordered online I would have received that movie not the original.

My gut is these BB are throwing the in store copies if LHOTL which do not include the 72 version & tricking consumers into a purchase.

Beware I don't know if it's just my town or not, btw any ideas on how to call out my local BB on this scam?

When I was at my local BB today, they did indeed have the original. Maybe it's just where some stores just didn't receive them.

I somehow doubt it is a bait and switch.... more likely just a disorganized store.... Many forum members have had success getting the advertised 1972 LHOTL, at the advertised $9.99, at their local Best Buys. I'm sorry your experience was not as positive.

If they don't have it, then ask customer service for a "RAINCHECK." If they don't get any copies in, Best Buy will allow you a substitution to purchase a different Blu-ray at the same discounted price. If the Best Buy retail price on the substituted Blu-ray you want is the same, you get the Blu-ray at the same sales price as LHOTL.

Secondly, ask them if you can order it by placing a special order. They can order it at customer service and either have it shipped to their store for free, or to have it sent to your house from their website, at the advertised price.

What I would do is ask for the RAINCHECK, regardless. At the end of the week, if they still don't have any in stock, ask to place a special order for it, as I indicated in this post. That way, you can get a substitution as well as ordering it as a special order.

It sounds like the OP was looking at the original without realizing it. There are only two Last House on the Left BDs, the original and the remake. The original has the same cover art as the DVD that was released when the remake was in theaters (i.e., NOT the cover art used for the older DVD). This is what the BD cover looks like for the original '70s film:

My Best Buy had the original, not sure what the price was but it was in a display tagged $9.99-$14.99, is it worth owning? I enjoyed the remake, never saw the original.

Bait and switch is not advertising the wrong item

It's advertising an item that they know they have very little or even none of, for the purpose of saying "Well, we DO have THIS model that's $100 more..."

The original LHOTL is a pseudo-remake of a Bergman film. Maybe that's what he's thinking of?

Yes it's very good. Has that old school look and feel to it (obviously being from 1972). But yea, it's only $10 and so is 'Poltergeist II' so pick them up. Hell, it'll give my favorite genre (horror) some Blu sales so maybe we'll get more Blu releases of horror in the near future.

My local Best Buy (Saginaw, Michigan: 405) is under the impression that they don't give "rainchecks" unless it advertised in their "ad".

Substitutions? Management nor did the customer service representative at the front desk say one word about it, nor the free shipping to my home. I went the very next day to buy something else and noticed the sign about shipping to home. I nicely pointed out the sign and asked the manager why he didn't mention it and of course I received the typical Best Buy "I wasn't aware of that" excuse / "I don't care" mentality

How is it a customer (you) knows more than the head store manager Rob? How ironic lol

That's funny. I work in a Best Buy in NC, and on the sales floor, we offer the free shipping of media products to many customers since our music and movie section has gotten a bit slimmer.

However, it was one of those things where they put the signs out and we were all like, "When a customer asks...what do we do???" Nobody had thought to mention it to us, even though we'd be dealing with the customers and said free shipping transactions.

And yes, the RAINCHECKS are only available on "ad" items. I did one for something else once, and the price that came up on the raincheck was the regular price. When I asked my manager, he said it was only for items in Sunday's ad. Oh well...

went to the Tenleytown DC Best Buy around 2:30 yesterday afternoon - besides Heavy Metal and Almost Famous, none of the exclusive were out or even in the system as being in stock.
