Default Help on spending money.

Well guys i sold some car parts that i had laying around and i got some money. Now my options are like this i can buy a shiny new Taurus 1911 mmmm purty.

Or i can go and get one of those nice lossless recievers with HDMI everyone is raving about, since i have the PS3 i will need one with HDMI. My question is, if i get a stand alone that does the decoding itself can i just keep my current reciever and i will get lossless audio, this is my current reciever.

http://www.onkyousa.com/model.cfm?m=...ss=Systems&p=i

I was thinking of replacing the reciever and keeping the speaker for now and get the best audio i can from the PS3, but if i can keep my current reciever and have a player output the audio decoded via analog im guessing my reciever will be ok???? Not sure help.

A 1911 Taurus? I didn't think they'd make it back then...

I'd get a new reciever. Yours doesn't support and HD codecs. I have the Onkyo TX-SR705 and it works great, but for the price difference you may as well go with the 805.
Guns are always good too though. I just picked up an XD-40 subcompact.

Of course, the truly evil would say to buy the gun, then take the receiver.

But my brother has a receiver similar to this (he sold his 360 for it), and it seems like a good investment.

It all depends on how many guns you already own

The Onkyo you linked to says it has 2 HDMI inputs. I'm assuming yours doesn't since you asked. I just upgraded an Onkyo 501 receiver to an Onkyo 705, using it with a PS3, and am happy with the results. The specs on the model you linked to look like you should be able to pass PCM to it via HDMI.

It has HDMI but is for video pass thru only no audio . And yes i was talking about a gun, i have an HK USP is 40S&W but that 1911 sure is sexy. i might get the reciever if i find it up in jersey this week.

So even if i get a player that does the decoding, i would not get lossless audio with a reciever that does it too???? Thanks. And if it would work, would the decoding have to be send bitstream of LPCM for the reciever to output lossless?

P.S. I got lucky last night and found Blade Runner at BB, finally.

Buy the gun and a ski mask and then walk into a Circuit City and steal an Onkyo 805. Problem solved and you get the best of both worlds.

Hmm.. not worth the jail time. Something more substantial like 20 million dollars would be worth it. Then again, that kind of money you don't rob a bank for so the likelihood of getting caught is slim unless your an idiot.

Anyways, get the receiver. Never understood the fascination of owning something you never really used. A shooting range does not count.

Yes I know that. That's why you don't ever give them a reason to start!
