Thumbs up Tales of Graces F coming to North America March 13, 2012

http://www.namco.com/console/tales-of-graces-f

(Official Box Art)

Developer: Namco Tales Studio
Publisher :Namco Bandai
Platform: PS3
Genre: Console role-playing game
Game play Modes: Single Player, Multiplayer, Co-op

Battle System

The battle system used for Tales of Graces is the "Style Shift Linear Motion Battle System" (SS-LMBS). In this system, characters have two different fighting styles to choose from. The A-style artes are pre-determined, however you can set the B-style artes, and the player is able to freely switch between the styles in battle. The battle system is currently rated one of the best systems in the entire Tales history.
Characters are also able to sidestep in a 360 degree circle around the enemy as well as Free Run. "Blast Calibers", as used in the Tales of Destiny (PS2) remake, make a return in Tales of Graces.
In battle, players attack using the Chain Capacity point system used in the Tales of Destiny (PS2) remake. The free run maneuver which originated in Tales of the Abyss is renewed in this game, but it is limited by Chain Capacity points.

Better than nothing! Now let's just hope Namco doesn't screw up and release this as an updated Wii version.

Well it's going to be similar to like just how the Japanese version is. Updated graphics, plus the new extra scenes added for the PS3 version and so on.

I think he meant port all the 'f' content back to a Wii-exclusive NA release. Which seems unlikely unless Nintendo's trying to fill out their 'core' release schedule.

I don't know why this can't be released here on Wii as well as PS3 since it was originally a Wii game.

Well the Wii version had some pretty bad bugs in it, but this is basically the same game but with just the added afterstory, updated graphics, new costumes, and other things as well.

It's like how we have Tales of Vesperia on Xbox 360, but an improved, enhance port version exists on PS3 which we still don't have yet.

Yeah, but unlike Vesperia, Graces never even made it outside of Japan for Wii.

So far this generation, North America has only seen two Tales games. Vesperia for 360 and Dawn of the New World for Wii. This will be the first Tales game for PS3 in North America. So now all systems have at least one now here. Too bad they aren't releasing more, and for other systems as well.

There was also Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology for PSP that came out awhile ago if you also count handheld systems.

Maybe they just need to put some time between the 2 games' release dates. It'd be an odd move for them to put that pixelated Vesperia logo on the site for nothing.

Same here. This is better than no Tales games for NA PS3s

When some of the Tales fans on facebook asked why they had used the Vesperia logo the guy from Namco's twitter said, "Those weren't Vesperia logos, only massively warped TOGF images! I had to make a way to keep fans guessing." I hope he is teasing cuz that would be messed up if Vesperia+ never came out here.

Fan Requests Influenced Namco Bandai’s Decision To Localize Tales Of Graces F

Quote:
When Namco Bandai confirmed Tales of Graces F for North America during their press event, Carlson Choi, Vice President of Marketing, mentioned there were over 50,000 requests asking for Tales. The announcement was teased as a puzzle, which they estimated would take 40 hours for one person to solve. It was cracked by Tales fans in nine and half hours.

"There is a strong existing fanbase. The buzz became too big to ignore, in a sense. Our company’s new theme and challenge is how to embrace community," Makoto Iwai, Bandai Label President, said in a Siliconera interview.

"It’s been a challenge for the JRPG in the US market. As long as they are loyal to this title, why don’t we embrace them? That’s a starting point." Since no platform(s) were announced I asked Iwai to clarify if Tales of Graces F would be released on PlayStation 3 and Wii. "We’ll see. We’re working on it. We’ll make the announcement later on," Iwai replied.

Iwai also spoke to us about Namco Bandai’s internal studios and partnerships with developers like From Software and CyberConnect2. Check back next week for that part of the discussion.
It better at least be on PS3!

Loving the cover art!! I'm getting this game Day 1.

But I have to wonder, is it really such a smart idea for Namco Bandai to release Tales of Graces F one week after Mass Effect 3?

Regardless, March 2012 is gonna be one epic month for me. I'm already planning on getting the Collector's Edition of Mass Effect 3 along with this game as well.

Yeah, namco has the worst timing ever cuz Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City and Max Payne 3 might also release in march too lol

Niche games have many times been put into the same dates as games that will be a 100 times more popular, but many of those titles have done pretty well against the bigger name titles. Sure niche games wouldn't even be able to sell a million copies worldwide, but I think it will still sell regardless.

So another JRPG coming out around the time of my birthday.

The reason I mentioned Mass Effect 3 specifically is because it too is also an RPG, albeit a different kind of RPG, and it's coming out one week before Tales of Graces F does.

I rather avoid the whole WRPG v. JRPG debate that seems to be going on as of late, so yeah, I'm not gonna say anymore on that.

Wow, if that is the US cover art, then i'm looking forward to picking up my copy on day one!

I don't really care much about Mass Effect 3 or the other mainstream games, so it's no problem for me as far as release dates go...

Hmm, is that really the US cover art? I'm looking around right now, and I don't see it anywhere else. Where'd you find it? Just curious.

And wouldn't the katakana text be erased as well? I don't think a Tales game that has been released in the US has ever kept that part of the logo.

Seems right to me. ESRB rating labels are only ever placed on North American covers; Europe's system is PEGI, and Japan's is CERO.
