Default Speaker hiss

I'm stumped!

I bought a Yamaha HTR-6060 and when i was at the level of volume that I like to view my movies in...I was getting a very large "hissing" (or static) noise coming out of the tweter of my center channel and my surround speakers...regardless if sound was going through them or not.

I figured it was the model (as informed by a local home theatre store).

So now i have a Denon AVR-1908.

I'M STILL GETTING THE SPEAKER HISS!

Granted, now its not as bad and i can only notice it if i actually listen for it....but it is still there.

what is causing the hiss? My speakers are the proper impedance (8 onhm) and they are well within the powever range (150W for the center channel).

My specs are in my signature.

thanks in advance!

-Chris

sounds like it could be a grounding issue?

Horizontal Bars, Buzzing Sound, etc?

after reading that thread, I don't believe this applies to me. If it were a grounding issue, would I not have this hiss come out of all of my speakers? My towers sound perfect. As well, my PS3 is not the only player i use. I get the same problem when I'm viewing my HD-DVD's as well.

I remember someone saying something about frequencies...I'm not too familiar with the inner workings of speakers so I have no idea if this is revelvant.

It sounds like you like to listen really loud right? Bear in mind that those are inexpensive speakers and will protest if played to loud, but a couple of questions, does your speaker wire or interconnects cross power cables and just how loud do you play it.
On a good system you should be able to select an unused input and run the volumn control all the way to the top with no noise.

Yes i do like it loud....I sometimes enjoys the sounds of the movie (SFX, music, etc) more than the movie itself.

The normal range i listen to is anywhere between -2db to +2db.

When i have the PCM audio going, -2.0db is my level of choice as it is loud enough without me noticing the hiss too drastically.

I did the empty channel with the volume at max test and experienced no noise ut of my speakers.

So bottom line is that there is too much power going out to my speakers (even though they are in the recomended power range)?

If only money wasn't so tight right now I would update my speakers. I'm thinking of Paradigm but can't find prices anywhere on the internet.
