Thumbs down Cloverfield...Yuck

I'm sure I won't have many on my side, but I must say I am so hating the shakey hand-cam movies. To me this movie looks like Godzilla filmed in the Blair Witch Project style. They did the same thing with the action in the Bourne movies (I thought the second one had it the worst). This style really turns me off.

Now if the movie comes out and it's got a lot more steady cam than what has been seen in the trailers (which is zero so far) I will happy.

Anyone else tired of the chaotic camera views in movies as of late?

I think its effective at times. In Children of Men when they are running from the camp and go into the building......that single continuous shot follwing them the whole time is epic, imo.

But using it as a novelty as in cloverfield may get annoying for a full 2 hours, i agree.

I also don't like the shakey cam filming technique. However JJ has done a good job of making this one of the most anticipated films in 2008. I'm curious, but I'll probably wait for the reviews before I decide to go watch this.

I thought the clovefield trailer was awesome!! It looks really intense and can't wait to see it once it comes out. Didn't even notice the camera work your talking about so I guess it doesn't bother me.

Does this belong here? The title is clearly not coming to Blu-ray, and only HD DVD. I do agree with you though, the shaky camera can be annoying in some films. This one I didn't find as annoying, but I could easily see how you would.

Children of Men is the exception. I'm probably one of the few who appreciate the camerawork in that movie more than the story itself. The scene in the car with Juliane Moore and the ending sequence where Clive Owen is running around in the middle of a battle zone are incredible.

Not yet, but they did show some small creatures or something attacking a girl in a tent though I believe...

I think it's highly anticipated because of the mystery shrouding the project. I might just be a huge party pooper, but these projects shrouded in mystery with the full-length trailers that reveal virtually nothing about the film tend to disappoint. I have a feeling that all the anticipation is going to lead to a big "meh" when the film actually comes out.

I agree it can be very effective at times and bring you into a really tense moment, but I just can't see sitting through a full movie of it.

I believe this movie is supposed to be a godzilla flick of some sort. Thought I read that somewhere but too lazy to go searching for it right now.

Ya there are reports of it being a godzilla type flick. Anyone who saw the trailer, are those monsters in the tent? The part after the guy says to turn the cameras off or something.

You and me both. That whole movie just has the perfect mixture of polish and rawness. I love it. I just remember sitting there during that scene and it just drew me in like nothing ive seen and just remember thinking how special it was. And when she got shot in the car its just BAM right in your face, that first person perspective was brilliant and effective without being forced.

Now im sad that i have to wait a while before Uni releases it on BD

I know so much about this movie but i cant say anything... it sucks. I hated Bourne three in the theater because of that but after watching the first one again it adds a lot to the production value. I can't wait to see Cloverfield.

I think they were shadows of two guys in full Haz-mat gear. I could be wrong.

I second that notion, because movies like 'Bourne' trilogy, 'Blair Witch', and even the battle scenes in 'Transformers' gave me instant headaches!

It is not actually "Godzilla", but J.J. Abrams did state somewhere that it is going to be "the Godzilla of this generation"... which implies that it is a monster of some sort with its own unique origin story and unique personal motivations.

Not asking what you know, but HOW you know it? Are you involved somehow with the production or are you dating the director's sister's neighbour's cousin's former roommate?
