Default Blu-ray on my PS3

Newbie question.... i have a 52in Sharp Aquos t.v. with 1080p. I am fine playing games through 1080p, but when i watched bluray for the first time it auto converts it to 420p. BTW i have a component cable. So i fixed up some settings and only allowed 1080p, 1080i,720p. So now, the bluray is running 1080i why isn't it running 1080p instead? Do i need a HDMI cable to do this? I am just curious, i am fine with 1080i but i want to experience 1080p quality. I would apperciated whoever can help me out.

I can't see why it's only getting a 1080i signal through component, unless the Blu-ray itself is only encoded in 1080i. What title specifically are you trying? nevertheless, I would get an HDMI cable. It's the way of the future!

The bluray disc is Spiderman 3, it can't be running only 1080i.

Nope... it certainly can't be! Can't think of anything else, unless the TV is not capable of 1080p through component input? But, that's highly unlikely. What is the model number of the TV?

Bluray movies are not capable of 1080p via Component.

HDMI cable is only way to get 1080p on Bluray.

"Copyright-protected Blu-ray video discs can only output at 1080p using an HDMI cable connected to a device that is compatible with the HDCP standard."

Don't amazon have it for like 17 cents? Don't know if all HDMI cables are the same or not.

Another great site is http://www.bluejeanscable.com/

Good luck finding a cable that is better engineered than what bluejeans offers.

Remember, as long as the cables have good shielding and solder points, copper is copper, the electrons can't tell the difference between cheap and expensive cables.

While that may be true I just can't seem to justify spending thousands of dollars on a tv, thousands more on receiver/speakers/blu-ray player and then buying the cheapest possible cable. To me it's worth the extra couple bucks, which is peanuts compared to the system cost, for the piece of mind it gives me. But that's just my opinion, to each his own..

If you plan on getting one immediately, say tomorrow or the day after Christmas, then I would recommend the xtreme HD. You can find them in an apple store for just under $20.

Be careful... Not every HDMI cable supports 1080p. Some cheap ones do only 1080i. You need to get HDMI 1.3 version.

Digital is digital. If it gets there then it is there. There is no top end or bottom end that gets cut off because of crappy cable impedance or, for that matter, anything else. Spend your money however you want but buying an expensive HDMI cable will in NO way enhance your movie watching or listening experience. Put the savings into speakers or a better reciever.

Might not enhance it, but what's an extra few bucks for cables when I've spent thousands on my system. It helps me sleep better at nite what can I say.

Have to dispute that though... Crappy shielding can allow the signal to get screwed really bad.
