FYI, there are already 2 new characters avaliable for download at the PS Store for .99 cents each. I forget their names. One is an overweight guy with piercings and tattoos. The other is a bald-headed Mexican midget who wears a wife beater. They're okay. The game needs more though, especially female characters. Actually what it really needs is a create a character feature. That's really the only thing about Wii bowling that I like over High Velocity. Otherwise, HV is superior in every other way.

You sort of palm the controller with one hand with all of the buttons facing toward you. You use your index finger to push "R2" and your pinky to push "L2." That is how you control the spin on the ball. Your thumb comes up from the bottom and pushes the "X" button. It's kind of hard to explain but believe me, it feels quite natural once you get used to it.

I managed a 242 over the weekend. My average is still under 200 though I bet.
![]() I have trouble getting strikes consistently. Each line I have to adjust (I guess the oil on the lanes etc. changes) and by the time I figure out the best formula it's the 8th frame. ![]() I still have the best luck with the character you start with. The guys with curvier throws seem harder to control. I checked the rankings yesterday and some cat has 76 300 games! WTF? The game hasn't even been out for a month yet, has it? |

The Wiimote/nunchuk is far less advanced at motion sensing : it detects "if" you're doing a movement, not "how" : many people who are used to the games only do a wrist move on games, as this is more about doing the move at a certain time to activate a pre set trigger to do someting (best example is Wii Tennis where the quality of the move is non existent, only the basic move direction and the time at which you do it, for Raving rabbids, for the cow throw, only doing a regular move (= the move is only partially registered and you have more chance it is detected by doing it in a good rythm) will trigger a good movement ... worst is in Red Steel where the number of moves is so limited that you can swing in every twisted way possible and randomly do some triggered moves, thus finally doing the 3 same moves at the good time ...

I can do the button no problem, but I agree that doing it via the motion sensor would make it a whole bunch more like *real* bowling.

Wow, that's pretty good. My highest is still 192, I think. Are you using spin or throwing a straight ball?

I was waiting for a good review, but got tired of that and went ahead and dowloaded HS Bowling. I had a lot of fun playing it with my daughter, and thought the way the have you hold the controller is pretty good. All in all, it was a fun experience...I'd say it was like playing a Wii, but I don't have one so I can't really compare.
Personally -I think Sony should make a bigger deal about this title. Or better yet - make it a free game that comes with the console to compete with Wii Sports. Regardless, it is a good break from COD4...something you can play with the kids. |

You basically are holding the controller with your index finger pointed towards the R2 button and your pinky pointed towards the L2 button. Your middle and ring finger are gripping the front of the controller (covering the USB port) and your thumb is placed conveniently next to the X button. Make the sign for I Love You in sign language and you pretty much got it.
You set up your approach by rotating the controller left and right (assuming the position as if you were holding a bowling ball), hit X, then set your angle of delivery by rotating left and right as well, then hit X. At this point you will see your character begin their approach, apply spin (gently squeeze the R2 or L2 triggers), swing the controller back (backswing), bring it forward to provide acceleration (forward swing), and as long as you do this before your character crosses over the foul line you will release the ball. If you treat this motion as if you were actually bowling it does make it easier to adapt. I personally think it is a great fun game. I really hope they implement head to head online games so I can call some people out on my friends list to prove their bragging. It's a great way to get wives/girlfriends involved with video games if they are one of those, "That's so stupid and a waste of time" types. Last edited by alphapyro; 12-23-2007 at 09:40 PM. |
