Warner Bros Inc, Paramount Pictures Corp and Universal Studios will likely start selling HD DVD movie titles in Japan and the US in October for 2,000 yen to 3,000 yen (US$19-29).
$20-30 per HD-DVD disc sounds pretty nice I must admit. Hopefully Blu-ray discs will be competitively priced.

Warner Bros and Universal Studios have yet to announce any decisions on pricing of HD DVD software, but their prices are expected to be in line with Paramount's.
This is still pretty much just speculation, only Paramount has mentioned these prices and they haven't fully committed to them. However, it sounds promising for the pricing of HD movies in general

In France, that would be a great thing if that kind of price could be apply ! But of course, taxes will pass by and so the discs will cost something like 45 €... What a shit...

So $20-30 in the USA is roughly £13-17 isn't it!? I had read that HD-DVD discs were to be twice dvd price in the USA. What is the full retail price for dvds in the States?

Does anyone know what we'll be paying in the UK? :?:

Most new releases are on sale for $15.99-$17.99 and have a regular price of $24.99-$29.99. There are hundreds of popular movies easily available for under $10. However I don't know anyone that spends more than $20 for most DVDs.

So HD-DVD's will retail for the same price as dvds retail for. Just no one pays retail prices but will have to for HD-DVD. Is that right?

Most dvds retail for £20 in the UK, 2 disc sets £25. I think most shops still sell at full retail. I always buy off the net so am not really sure. Most UK internet sites charge £13-15, (sometimes less), for a new dvd on the whole, (£18 for 2 disc set). Though I tend to import films from either dvdboxoffice or dvdsoon, as they charge £11, (sometimes cd-wow). It's ridiculus that they can ship new dvds all the way from Canada for 2/3 of the price of the cheapest UK net sites, and almost half uk retail price. We always get ripped off in the UK.

Are there any good internet retailers who ship dvds to the Uk? or games for that matter? :?:

Yes retail prices of DVDs and HD-DVDs will be about the same. However, it's rare to have to pay full retail price for a DVD so I'd expect we won't have to for HD-DVDs either. I use to pay full retail for DVD when it first came out but once every video store started to carry them the prices dropped to usually $5 less than retail price. I'd guess that once HD-DVD gets going we'll actually pay $15-20 each. By that time I think most DVDs will be $10-15 as it'd be foolish to charge the same about for an SD-DVD as an HD-DVD.

I think you'll need a fellow UKer to answer your other questions. I used to buy from DVDSoon as they always had great prices and the Canadian/American dollar conversion worked out well for us in the States.
