Default Wonting to buy

I have been wonting to buy a blu-ray for a while now. Hoping Santa was going to get me one. Guess I was bad thins year. Any way. I went to pc Richards and asked a couple of questions about the difference between models. Two salesmen told me that the most important thing I need to do is buy a blu-ray that is the same make as my TV. Something to do with the two would be more compatible. So I have a sharp agues TV so do I buy a sharp blu-ray. I didn't know if that was true or not so I went to best buy and asked salesmen there if it was true and I was told it doesn't make a difference. So who is right or wrong? What do you think?

I have a Sony blu ray (301) and an Samsung HDTV - and the two work very nicely together. Whoever told you that you needed the same make for both Blu ray player and TV is out of their mind.

But what you can afford and what you think you will enjoy most.

i have no clue who or what pc richards is, but they are completely wrong. you do not need the same brand of player or tv. the guys at best buy are right.

There are some hdmi features which will only work with tv's and players of the same make, but that is entirely an electronics thing and will in no way affect the playback of any discs.

Welcome to the forum! As others have pointed out, there's no reason you need the player and TV makes to match. If you'll tell us your budget and some details about your TV, we can make some useful suggestions about possible players. The folks here will know far more than the vast majority of salesmen you'll meet.

Samsung.

Samsung AnyNet System Control
Samsung Anynet lets you control all of your Anynet-enabled Samsung components through the TV’s remote control. This feature facilitates "one-touch" control operations such as turning on the TV, DVD player and selecting the proper inputs.

I used to have a samsung upconverting dvd player with my samsung tv and I believe the anynet function only worked with hdmi. could be wrong. it was pretty convenient at the time though. no need to a universal remote.

Dude, just buy a PS3 and be done with it. It will work fine with your Sharp and it is a fine Blu-ray player and game machine.

i cant see any main features being improved but i know that my sony bravia nsync allows me extra options that as far as i know i wouldnt have with another companys blu player. plus i got everything on one remote which is great, i fire up my blu and the tv switches automatically to the right input, i put my tv on the sleep timer my blu shuts down with it etc...

i cant see HAVING to buy the same brand though.
