Default I have a new problem SONY 52" or Panasonic 58"

First of all i was sold on getting a Sony XBR4/5 52" lcd, basically for 1080p.But when i get to the store now a see a Panasonic 58" plasma with 1080p.Now i'm totally confused.Of course my wife is there and she likes the Panasonic and i like the Sony(in our 18 years of wedding bliss we probably never agreed on anything that plugs in a wall even a coffee machine LOL).Could somebody please help! We already have a 60" plasma in the family room upstairs but we need another t.v. in the family room downstairs because i like sports and she likes Oprah LOL.

adopt me... please?

As for your dilemma, I would personally go with the panny. Plasmas usually have a better native contrast ratio and tend to process standard definition better than lcds. (and not that any one would notice, but plasmas have almost no refresh rate)

I love my samsung lcd, but if I could have purchased a 58" Panasonic 1080p Plasma, I would have.

First off, welcome to the forum and Blu. I think either way you go, you can't go wrong. I went with almost all plasmas in my house for many reasons, but what I will tell you is that if you go plasma, Panasonic ranks near the top. I have been very happy with all of mine and I even plan on getting another in the 70" range during 2008 for my main home theater. I hope it's a Panasonic.

Well, I just went through the exact same issue.......52" xrb4, or a 58"plasma, or even possibly a 60" rear projection. Long story short....The Sony 52"xrb4 is being delivered in the morning. What sold me was the 120/24fps (blu-ray is 24fps), and as I understand it....the only plasma that is 72/24fps...is the Pioneer. Not the Panasonic, nor the Samsung. Plus, I didnt want to mess with worrying about the image retention, and all of that. (Currently have a 42" Sony plasma......excellent images...it is being moved elsewhere in the house). Anyway...after a lot of reading I went with the LCD.....good luck with your decision.

if you are going to be playing video games, stay away from plasma.

I totally agree and that's why my response was "why". I want to hear the reasoning and make sure we are not going to get FUD.

I'm sure that was old school meaning earlier years into plasma. They also had a short shelf life of about 5 to 7 years. Now I don't think there is a problem and life span is around 50,000 hours compared to 60,000 with an LCD. 8 hrs a day x by 365 = 2920 a year so only 29200 for ten years and we are just over 1/2 it's life at that point. That's also at 8hrs a day.

I'm sure there are many plasma experts here that could give better info than me though.

It's really not about the size, but how you use it, or in this case how you hang it!!

My brother in law just got a pioneer Kuro and it looks awsome. The black levels are outstanding, better than any lcd. He has the 50", but they do make a 60". Pioneer PDP-6010fd

They are in
4 bedrooms (5th has a tube TV still )
1 rec room
1 family room
1 workout room
1 in game room (building behind house)

I'm waiting to dump the tube TV until I get a 70" plasma replacement for the rec room in 2008 and then move all the TVs again.
