Default Walmart and Nielsen numbers

You know, I've heard the HD-DVD boys always complain about walmart movie numbers are never counted in the Nielsen numbers. The WMs in my area all have at least a 2:1 ratio of bd to HD-DVD titles. One WM only had 2 HD-DVD titles and about 20 BD titles. With those numbers how can one figure that HD-DVD would come out on top when WM has very limited HD-DVD titles? More FUD from HD-DVD duds. They really need come down to earth and live in the real world.!

All the retailers that I frequent...BJs...BB...Target...Walmart...in the hunt for PS3 deals (bought Dark Kingdom for $12 at Target...clearance...well worth it for the price...right now, they have 2K7 BBall for $18...) and BRay movie deals where I am, the store shelves look something like this...

BJs...shelves full of BRay...no DUDs
BB...2 to 1 ratio
Target...3 to 1 ratio
Walmart...2 to 1 ratio...

In essence, DUDs better be glad Nelsen numbers do not count every avenue as it would be impossible considering five finger discounts...but, 2.8 million PS3 players or so in US alone tells me BRay is kicking some royal ass!

My local Walmart has a really good selection of Blu-rays... and at the best prices of any Brick and Mortar store. They usually only have 8-10 HD DVD titles and they rarely change, even when new releases hit. I'd buy discs there but I hate Walmart and only go there to check their HDM section.

Either way, not really sure how Walmart is going to help the HD DVD cause. It really seems like they're trying to belittle owners of their own format, implying that "cheap customers" (as they assume Walmart customers to be) would be more likely to buy their format than Blu-ray.

They're trying to justify to themselves the money they've thrown away on HD-DVD. I almost feel sorry for the poor suckers.

Almost.

The reason they like to say that is because in the SD market Walmart has about a 40% share. But according to the latest artice on the matter I have seen which is from Oct. they are in third place for HDM and in the pack with all the others.

Ask them to point to a Wal-mart that sells HDM for $8.88 a disc like they do SD-DVD's. Tell them that if they can, you'll concede that Wal-mart might be selling a lot more than other retailers, just like SD-DVD's.

Then, ask them to explain why they feel that HD-DVD buyers would be compelled to only buy their HD-DVD's from Wal-mart and why Blu-ray buyers would be compelled not to buy their Blu-rays from Wal-mart. Tell them that if they can do that, you'll concede that there's substantial reason to believe that Wal-mart's numbers might not only be the exact opposite of that of every other retailer in the nation, but they might be pushing out enough HD-DVD's and few enough Blu-rays to make up for the defecit built up by Blu-ray's sales lead everywhere else.
