I'm a huge fan of Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Edgar Wright. I'm tempted to buy the Complete Series on Amazon, but I'm afraid since it's a BBC show that I might not get the humor. Is the show really that good and worth a blind buy?

It certainly is brilliant and a classic of the past decade, so there's no denying it's great.

I can't say if you'll 'get' the humour or not, but since you've enjoyed the likes of Shaun of the Dead then you should like it.

I'd give it ago, because anything with Simon Pegg in it is brilliant.

This show was one of the best somedies EVER. Same humour as Shaun/Hot Fuzz. Season 1 was better then 2 though.

But Series 2 contains what many people consider the best episode of the entire show
[Show spoiler]Gone aka the imaginary gun episode
.

I love the entire series, and I feel that there isn't really a weak episode in the show.

Yup. Picked it up at Barnes and Noble. Greatest decision ever. I love this show so far! Just hit 2nd episode of Series 2, but episode 1 of Series 2 has the funniest moment so far in the series. YouTube - Spaced - Phantom Menace
Oh and this from Series 2 episode 2)
YouTube - Spaced - Phantom Menace 2 of 4

Bit of a late reply I know and I should have mentioned this in my original post, but it's not a BBC show, it was produced by another UK channel - Channel 4.

I know it doesn't alter the fact that it's a great show, but I just thought I'd mention it.

Did they shoot it on film? I always got the feeling that it was shot on video tape.

I love this show. One of my all time favorites. I've always hoped they would revisit it. Maybe a season 3 or at least a tv movie. I'd love to see this put out on Blu-ray.

Does anyone know which release is more accurate, the NTSC US release, or the PAL UK release?

As in, was the show filmed in PAL format (25fps), or was it filmed in NTSC (24fps) and then sped/pitched up for the UK release?

I believe it was shot on Betacam SX, which would have been formatted to native PAL. Given that the lasting adulation was unexpected, particularly outside of the UK, there would have been no call for shooting it in anything other than PAL - so this would be the accurate one.

It's a british show, so yeah PAL would be preferred. Funny series but the movies are better

You mean the Cornetto trilogy? Their only relation to Spaced is Pegg, Frost and Wright

From hands-on experience of the films, I know a thing or two about the Cornetto Trilogy, and Spaced was essentially showcasing the tastes of Edgar & Simon, with Shaun going into production (before Film 4 ceasing movie-making) just after the built-upon success of series 2.

There are many elements from Spaced in the first two films which were expanded upon, either directly or thematically - slackers trapped in a grotty life with rocky relationships being the most obvious, as well as that of the current pop-culture-obsessed 30-somethings (or the 'video generation').

The big difference between TV & movies is that Jessica Stevenson brought a feminine perspective through being one of the main writers of Spaced, which some fans argue is missing from the Cornetto Trilogy.

Apparently today is the 20th anniversary of Spaced. Edgar Wright has been celebrating on social media. Check his accounts for a bunch of pics, videos, links to stories, a Spotify playlist, etc...

I'll definitely be breaking out my old DVDs tonight in honor.

A 20th anniversary Blu-ray would have been nice. If they can do classic Doctor Who & The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, they can do Spaced.
