Default No news ... but we're keeping an eye on you!!

So, some films had news and buzz and then stopped.. I am trying to see what I come up with...

The Wicker Man (1973): I just learned of a new film called "The Wicker Tree" coming soon with Christopher Lee and the original director teaming up again... could this be a hint that the original 1973 "The Wicker Man" will have its RESTORATION done and released on Blu to coincide with it?? I really hope we get a pristine version with new footage ala "Metropolis" miracle...

The Legend Of Billie Jean: so, commentaries were recorded a few years back and there is a widescreen HD version floating around on the net.. it is/was streaming on Netflix for a while too. How much "getting used to the water" at the bathing suit line does a film need before it bites the bullet and jumps in the damn pool? Anyone have an update of what's holding it back?
I can HOPE for Henry Thomas's film "The Quest" or "Electric Dreams", but at least Billie Jean has some walking legs already...

Transformers the Movie (1986 animated): I've been watching Shout Factory's site and it looks like there are lots of new TF releases coming soon but still no word of a Bluray like GI Joe. I have been holding off on the UK import for too long.. I may pick it up JUST so Murphy's law will make Shout Factory announce it as coming soon the day it arrives. anyone else have updates on what's holding it back?

As for Star Wars... I just hope that fans boycott his Blurays and have screenings every day of the Star Wars Holiday Special and burn free copies for every living man woman and child until Lucas gives in and does the right thing... originals!! Anyone want to join me in a live theatrical play version of the Holiday special outside his window?

I recall reading about a restoration of Straw Dogs. The Blu-ray has received a release date in the past but is continually delayed. I'm hoping its eventual release will coincide with that of the remake later this year.

Transformers (1986) UK version is long OOP.
good luck getting a copy of that for a reasonable price.
I think there is an AUS version that looks basically the same that people are now getting.
here's a UK one for "only" $149.

Don't you hate that about the internet? The way people keep posting stuff with absolutely no regard for what you might think about it?

Some people, right?

1 or 2 Leia slaves is enough for me,(and they don't even have to be virgins!)

50 pounds is certainly better than $149, but it's still very expensive--especially if you're in the US.
actualy the main reason I sought out this thread is because I found a very reasonably priced copy abut 10 days ago and it's supposedly on its way to me.
I'm always looking for OOP bds that I can use as trade bait for other really rare pieces.
I really hope it makes it.

Lightbulb Just waiting in the wings...???

Twentieth Century Fox announced restorations and future releases of The Agony and the Ecstasy and Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines to Blu-Ray going on possibly almost two years ago which was reported by Bill Hunt's team at The Digital Bits and have been on Blu-Ray.com's future upcoming list as well. 75th Anniversary and all I thought now would be the right timing to release these 70mm classics. And another 70mm classic Cleopatra keeps on being rumored from time to time, too. With the recent success of the restored The Sound of Music maybe some serious attention will be given along with Hello, Dolly! as well. Restorations of these 65mm Negative 6-Track Stereo classics should be very worthwhile investments for Fox.

I've been wondering about those as well.
I thought Fox meant they were coming the year Fox celebrated its 75th anniversary, but they never showed up.

Octagon and Mahatma... Though I love freedom of speech I would be with you on pairing that with a wish that people had self restraint over posting things that might upset people for no good reason.. Yahoo comments when celebs pass away can be horrible. Just check out ignorant rants against kids singing on Youtube- kids that probably sang for their parents only and had no idea even that the world could/would watch...

That said, I may be blind, but I can't really see where any of my comments here could have set anyone off. Critiquing art, music, poetry, pop drivel is fun and exciting.. still, perhaps it is too easy to put me in a category? I did not slam Lucas did I?

Sometimes a Bluray's content is great but the packaging or PQ is terrible. Mel Brooks collection is a perfect example (for packaging). I'm not offended if someone slams one of the movies nor would I be saddened by unfavorable comments that the packaging is falling apart (even if I worked in a cardboard factory).

Star Wars is a series of great films.. I don't have a problem with the new alterations and yes, I can choose to not buy the Bluray set and or not watch the new versions. Equally, I would hope that my attempt at humor over the rhetorical question of staging a live version of the holiday special would only be deemed as excitement for the originals and not a "me too" slamming of whatever he wants to do to his films. I love how Blade Runner, E.T., Close Encounters, Superman, etc. have multiple versions of the film(s). I un-apologetically wish Lucas for the sake of film preservation would not let what made him where he is today- his original masterpieces, rot in a bin. They should be INCLUDED in his box set or sold separately.

Ok, time to land my plane... My boycott will not include picketing or storming castles.. I just won't buy the set and encourage the many masses that love the originals to do the same, as it seems currently our only defense to give George the message. Equally, if you want to buy the set, I thoroughly support your decision to do so and support your countdown anticipation for the release day.

Default Transformers

I have a feeling it is just a matter of time for 1986 TF movie to come to Blu again.. maybe a tie in with a bluray release of the live action um... "movies".

Anyone know if there is any rights/red tape holding it back or is it more in a "it just hasn't come out yet" film category?

You know, thinking about it, I'm surprised they HAVEN'T released the TF animated movie to tie in with the Live action movies.
