If there are I haven't noticed. But I did use the THX Optimizer from the Revenge of the Sith DVD and my BDs look fantastic. The colors have all looked accurate and the blacks are very black and even. Blade Runner looks absolutely stunning in the darkest scenes.

THX is a joke. When Lucas was fully behind it, THX used to really matter. Creative Labs is now behind it and just about anybody with a large bankroll can get their equiment "certified" as THX. Do not fall for the hype. Even (crappy) Kintec theatre equipment was able to get their processors certified because they threw a lot of money to the certification board. That sounds really familiar...didn't Toshiba do some thing like this earlier this year? Hmmmm...

Most theatre chains are dropping the the certifications beacause all they are doing is renting a name. Most chains still build to the THX specs but will not pay the ridiculous yearly fee for each auditorium to say they are certified.

Now, the optimizers on the discs are a good thing. That part is got Lucas stamped all over it. They should be able to calibrate your home setup nicely. Just do get carried away with home equipment with the THX logo stamped on it. It means nothing.

Don't think so, but I know that several titles have optimization patterns of their own. Not sure which ones, I think the Pixar titles, but am not sure. You should be able to search for which ones though.

Personally, I would buy the Video Essentials BD.

Ratatouille has a calibration set-up that's pretty thorough.
