Default Popeye theatrical shorts

From the New York Post:
Quote:
One of your most popular Warner Archive categories is animation you've been releasing under the Hanna-Barbera label. Will you be bringing out the rest of the theatrical Popeye cartoons at WAC, since the series has been suspended at retail for years?

Those still need to be photochemically restored. We won't do anything with those at WAC, but we're hoping they'll be Blu-ray. We will be hopefully doing things with the made-for-TV Popeyes [at WAC], we have some very enterprising ideas for those. The HB titles have been so extraordinary successful.
So it looks like when Warner gets around to restoring the shorts, they do have plans to put them on blu-ray. I just hope we don't have to wait until Sony's 3D Popeye movie for them to do it, although that's probably what's going to happen.

I just discovered this in the deals page:

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Popey...Blu-ray/90328/

I did a little searching and it appears they are manufactured on demand on BD-R, so I'm not expecting anything great from this. It's also only 41 shorts out of over 120, so a very incomplete collection. I wonder if the company making this is even doing it legally, since Warner holds the rights to them.

Is it even available anywhere besides eBay pages like this one? Seems kind of suspicious, at best they may have obtained some old film prints to scan, at worst it could just be an upscale...

http://8thmandvd.com/

this is their web site, it also links their youtube channel:

https://www.youtube.com/user/8thManDVDcom

if you go there and you look at this one for example:

it seems it's been upscaled, there are jaggies on the main titles. Of course you have to choose the 1080p settings on youtube

That's why I asked if anyone has got the real Blu-ray.

Edit: I forgot to remark that according to youtube channel preview the aspect ratio is 1,78:1 and not the original 1,37:1

Yes, stretched, upscaled, pirated junk from the excellent Popeye the Sailor DVD sets. Spend your money there instead of giving it to these... individuals. Notice that their website has been taken down, no doubt due to cease and desist letters from Warner, but they are still selling on ebay.
