hi, i own a toshiba bdx1100, i just need some help picking settings, thank you if anyone can help,
1.Under general setting, system it says CEC, on or off, what does that mean. 2.It also says upgrade and disc auto upgrade, i presume that means updates for the player, can someone confirm this for me. 3. It also says external memory, what does that mean. 4. What does load default mean, i know i should know this so sorry. 5. Screen saver means when you don't touch it for a while something happens, can someone confirm this. 6. DIsc auto playback, whats that. thanks, sorry for trouble |

I know absolutely nothing about your player, but let me take a stab at it - 1- CEC is control of other devices by the player's remote control, through the HDMI connection. But it's generally it's limited to devices of the same brand, as the different brands use different protocols. In other words, if your TV is also Toshiba you can control it with the player's remote with CEC set to On, but not if your TV is a Sony or Samsung or another brand. 2- Yes, it's options for firmware updates. 3- External memory is something like a USB thumb drive that you can use instead or in addition to the player's internal memory. 4- It means to load the player's default settings, erasing any changes to the settings you have made. 5- Yes, Screensaver is like a screensaver for a computer - if inactive for a certain amount of time it turns the screen blank and randomly displays a message across the screen. This is so you don't get an image burned into your screen from a still image being displayed for a long time. 6-Disc auto playback means if On, a disc will start playing when you close the tray, Off the player will wait for you to press Play. On the Toshiba US site a review for his player says that you can install region specific firmware before you want to watch a disc from that region and swap them back and forth. I can't really comment on that but unless his player thinks it already up to date will he be able to install the UK firmware over the US one? Can you go back to your factory settings firmware if it doesn't work? I think you can with the PS3 but the Toshiba isn't quite the same. |

Well, if Toshiba blu-ray players are like their HD DVD players they will only accept a newer version FW, not the same or older version. But what he can do is download the free Hexedit program. It's a hexadecimal editor that shows you what's inside software programs. Toshiba puts the version number right at the beginning. Download the current UK firmware version and change the version number to one higher than the US and the player will take it. For example if the UK & US firmware version are both 2.2, change the UK on to 2.3 and the player will take it, thinking it's a newer version. I'm pretty sure resetting to factory defaults doesn't affect region settings. PS - There's a thread for UK hardware here? Last edited by The Duke; 03-31-2011 at 08:20 PM. |

He posted his two threads in the Blu-ray Movies/International/UK section. When I talked about the factory settings I wondered if it would roll-back the firmware not just the region settings I'm not sure how to do that though. |
